The cabin looks enormous, for some reason?

It`s even got a little bookshelf too?

      Nice work, Neil

See what you mean by the bookshelf Bob

………….You are far too observant lol. I took it with my camera upside down.

being serious for a minute though………it is a large cabin……..needs to be with 7 seats and two W/T hatches in it. plus all the screens etc.

I'll have a job to fill it,

I thought it was about time I repaired the 3 front cabin windows.
they were in such a state when I received the kit, that the original owner who had worked on it before the gent I bought it from, probably wouldn't know a straight line, if he walked one.
and when I fit the window frames, there were gaps everywhere especially in the corners.
so to repair them, I have masked the side windows from the inside so that any running of resin will not fall onto the outside of the cabin, as all ten of those windows port n starboard were actually cut reasonably well. it is just the three front windows.
so they have been masked from the outside, and I will use resin and matting to fill those apertures in and then when cured I will recut the holes for the frames.

earlier tonight I mixed resin and hardener and applied it to the matting and surface tissue, and left to cure sufficiently for me to take the tape off both inside and outside to see the problem that had been made.

                  And finally for tonight

now that the repairs have been allowed to cure to a reasonable state, I offered up the windows and placed them how they should have been originally……equally spaced and running parallel to the base line created by the fore section of the superstructure.

I marked the inside of the window frame so that the apertures could then be enlarged equally around the perimeter of the hole so that the frame can fit tightly into the holes created .

I finally for tonight fitted a half round raised beading to the aft extension panels of the rear of the cabin. these were just two lengths of plasticard of 2 x 2 mm section, glued in place with cyano and clamped with spring clamps.

this is a better photo of the window frames fitted temporarily.

and whilst waiting for the model shop in Preston to open for click and collect to replenish stocks of plasticard and glues/zappers, I made the rear cabin companionway

and the last few days is the first time I have used it………….must have been 25 years ago that I bought it, lol. and I bought two sheets thinking I'd use it all the time, lol.

well, the drawing for the frame and grating that fits into the rear of the main cabin on my Tyne has now been finished and my friend Alistair is now going to speak with a friend of his who has numerous printers, hopefully to print one off to see if it needs any minor "titivation"…

but if it looks like the drawing on the programme, it is going to look superb.

so here is my grating in glorious technicolour, but as Alistair says, it would be very fragile if printed in 3 separate parts, and so the whole thing will be printed as one….

never actually considered building one of those, as apart from being at the naming of RNLB Fishermans Friend in Fleetwood docks in 1993, I have never had any close association with one as apart from a couple of weeks here and there when one has been on relief at Fleetwood I have never been that interested or close up to one, sorry.

                              but could be interesting!

ran out of plasticard in the two thicknesses that I use most often last night and so firstly made the odd shaped cover panels for the "wings" of the aft cabin.I used 200gram card. they will be totally waterproofed and hardened and resilient to water after a few coats of cellulose sanding filler. used my fabric waterproof paint to simulate the rivets, and then retired.

the plans that I have are about half the size that they should be even though they are marked up at 1;10 scale. However getting the old calculator out, taking two points to measure, i.e. the length of the cabin top on the plan, to the length of the same on the moulding, I worked out that to get the model parts to 1;12 size I have to multiply the measurements from plan by 168%.

On this knowledge I made the main engine room companionway and W/T hatch, which once set needed a good sanding and the hinge springs and locking handles plus the viewing port centre to the hatch to add. These were then added.

just had a mental aboration, and have attacked my main cabin roof.Am I mad or just a genius………..only time will tell…….but nice sunroof, lol.I had some problems with fitting accurately the main engine room access door………and so pondered what I could do to accurately fit out the rest of the main cabin on the Tyne from inside out and upside down.

I had to think of a way to build upon the floor whilst the cabin was in situ, as the cabin will lift off the hull in the finished boat, leaving the floor in place, held by magnets.

the only way I could think of doing it and gaining the access I needed………..was to cut the top of the cabin off leaving good access.

SO! i'm not into "keyhole surgery" and with my big hands need space……….and so, I converted my Tyne class lifeboat into a GT Convertible……I like the design, lol.once the interior has been constructed, the cabin will be reunited with its roof which will be carefully dumped…….errr I mean stored in my workshop to prevent it from twisting, and then glass fibered back in place.I'm not into "keyhole surgery" and with my big hands need space……….and so, I converted my Tyne class lifeboat into a GT Convertible……I like the design, lol.I cut the roof our with a diamond tipped attachment to my minicraft drill after masking it all up.

after cutting the top off the cabin, I sat looking at the interior for a while, and began to wonder and worry that I'd got it wrong.

The Helmsman and navigator would have had to have been a maximum 4' tall if that for every Tyne…………I had got it wrong somehow.

ahh, now was the time to start looking more closely at the plans…….and so I did……….whoooppzzzz!! I had.

the side elevation of the GA inside cabin view shows that the floor drops about 3' inside the door and follows through on a horizontal plane until it meets the front bulkheads of the cabin.

and so, I cut the centre out of the floor, just as I had cut out the middle of the cabin top. so that I could use this new section as the floor of the cabin.

once I had done that, I could lay some beading around the edges and glue up the side walls to it.

the top combing would have to be trimmed to locate the beading, but no problem.

the big problem is, I could not find a single piece of 1.5 mm ply in my workshop to make the sides out of……..so today I could do nothing, but sit and look at it…….I'' try the new model shop in Fleetwood tomorrow, and if not will have to surf the net for some tomorrow afternoon.

so the photos are as far as I got last night.

I got some very nice mahogany grained 2mm plywood today from the model shop at Fleetwood.18" x 24" for £3.99…it is so nice that I am going back for some more on Wednesday get a few sheets as stock.

so measured up, cut the two sides and the rear bulkhead for the "sunken" deck to the fore cabin and glued it all together in stages.

I then will have to cut the main combing for the cabin thinner so that it will all fit into the respective hole in the deck to locate the well, and the well will then act as a holder for the cabin…….once that is all in place I will be able to build up the forward console for W/T door, the conning area central to the front, and the visual radar section on the starboard side.

this will be a trial and error exercise on Wednesday….off to Nottingham tomorrow……an all day job.

the inner floor fits so well that I can build the fore bulkhead without any fettling, and so and I just thought i'd have a bit of fun with my little palls in uniform
