finished the compressed air boxes, adding the fixing rivets, and then put in the spacer floor into the aft cabin.

I want to put into the cabin the side survivors bunks and stretchers along with the watertight small access door to the tiller flat so this deck made from 10mm ply has straightened out the side walls of the cabin, which had bowed inwards through age.

the centre will then be cut out and the dropped area then made to sit inside the main access hole in the stern of the hull……more to follow.

also….the drawings and model frame are now with an aquaintance/friend through the RNLI who works in 3D Programming for him to try to work his magic on them to produce a programme to print the 3 pieces required to make the flying bridge grating…..fingers crossed.

The aperture for the access to the rear survivors cabin has been drilled and opened up……..tomorrow I'll straiten up the edges and then start building the cabin from the bottom up, lol.

got 2, Bob………a 2000 watt Elu that will cut through basically anything, and a small one with diamond tipped blade that I use for trimming grp mouldings…………but in limited spaces I use my favourite technique of drilling and reaming out the hole……..and that was a limited space lol.

Well then, how about a Pad Saw?

              What`s with the Reaming?….Do you mean….Enlarging?

              Apologies for my trivial comments

I`m just passing time, while the glue sets!

in tools Bob, there is nothing that that I need that I haven't got and collected in my 50 years of serious building and 61 years of model making.

as for reaming.……..yes..partly enlarging the holes, but not circumference wise, but sideways so that one hole meets the other and so on until all holes have been joined together and the inside falls out………..simple technique and then just a matter of cleaning up the lines of the hole.

by the way…….buy some faster acting glue. smileylaughwinkcheeky

This afternoon the glue has been setting as I dribble it along the bits to be stuck together! Similarly my acrylic paint has be drying such that the first brush stroke is dry before I finish the last bit.

                  Just so hot!

I am casting some lifeboat figures at the moment with polyurethane quick set resin. normally I have about 4 minutes from pouring together and mixing to it going off and gloopy……….today it has been down to about 2 minutes maximum

got to work fast and do half the resin that I normally do.

                    anyway…..

TODAYS job was to straighten up the inner deck, get it fitting on to the boat [ as the deck really tightened the cabin up and made it a tighter fit on the combing than it was].

and cutting the access to the rear cabin and looking at the supplied W/T door, to see about thickening it.

                    deck straightened, job done.

fit to deck, getting there but job not fully done.

access to cabin and thickening the w/t door……..job done.

its windy, rainy, cold and depressing weather for the end of June, so yet another day indoors with my new baby, my Tyne.

today was the turn of the inner walls and floor for the aft cabin of the boat……to be detailed, but have to say, not much really to detail in it……..having said that………..anyone got a shot of the rear access plate so that I can put that in……….it is on the rear wall that allows restricted access to the tiller flat and the hydraulics for the rudders and trim tabs……would like to put that in as it is facing the opening W/T door in the cabin.

carrying on with the interior I first fit a wooden "fringe" of 5 x 5mm timber that will allow me to screw the bottom of the cabin to the top………for if anything ever comes loose, I can get to it.

I then made the survivor benches around the port and stern sides of the cabin, and the "can be seen" [from the W/T door access] the frontal view of the lower stretcher area.

All parts were made from scrap "hardboard" which gives a shiny side to paint on.

Finally I fitted the floor with some none slip chequer plate plastic card.

I suppose now that I will carry on with the stern cabin and detail the outer faces of it, working towards spraying.

as someone said in a post on another build…………"it might not be seen, but I know its there" referring to the inside of his cabin area, and I like his sentiment.

I started detailing the interior of the rear cabin this afternoon.God knows why because probably only I will ever know what is in there, lol……..but each to his own!…….I like a little artistic licence. Anyway it was the first of numerous parts that could just possibly be seen if a light was put into the cabin. We shall see.

anyway contrary to what I thought that the rear access hatch to the rear tiller flat was a "bubble", it was as explained in detail to me today, just a normal flat, if just a little odd shaped hinged hatch with wing nut ties with the door opening port to starboard.

Here is my rendition of what I was told today and it ties up with what I can see from the photo I have.

air tanks finished, bases fitted and stowage brackets for tying them in added also.

next will be some seat cushions, and some "seat belts" added, and then all painted ready for a light to go in.

and then I think, why in gods name am I doing this. No one will ever see it all lol.

It`s common to see plastic kit builders of Tiger Tanks and B17`s etc to fully fit the cockpits and engine compartments and then cover it all up again with a rye smile

my friend from the RNLI sent me a picture of the first drawing he has drawn for me this afternoon.

it is the main grating that will eventually go into the frame, and the final part will fit into the rhomboidal cut out in the grating.

it will then be 3D printed and put together as a finished item……………

this is the grating of the flying bridge of the TYNE class lifeboat at 1;12 scale

Hi Neil, what a splendid invention is the 3 D Printer idea?

It solves a lot of tricky fittings problems

What will they think of next?

Are we approaching a plastic kit model?

                                                  Aye!…….There's a thought

                                                  Bob

I wouldn't want to make a full model from a 3 d printed set of parts, but people are building models from fully 3 d printed stuff.

but to me that takes the pleasure from making a model………….and some parts can take up to 12 – 24 hours to print, such as a hull section…………..and then unless you spend upwards of £1000 you still get print lines every scan on the printed item that all needs sanding off.

also the material that is printed is not waterproof so I am told, so you still have to put a barrier on it to stop water ingress………..give me a good old GRP hull any day, lol.

an update on my grating for the Tyne…….

the dip in the grating in front of the main W/T door can now clearly be seen.

it is looking absolutely fantastic. thank you Alistair.you are a genius!

started the interior of the main cabin this afternoon.

1st cleaned up the area that I had cut out for the external flying bridge main console that left a gaping hole in the rear of the cabin.

and whilst at it cleaned up the inner door surrounds as well with a few strip[s of thin plasticard.

then it was time for the supporting "rafters" for the false roof that hides the wiring for the forward spot lights and the main cabin lights.

using a new plastic glue that I bought off ebay a couple of weeks ago…….not a patch on the EMA plastic weld I bought the other day though……..I shall glue the rafters down this evening using that glue plus weights to hold them down.

and then put a false "ceiling" up to the rafters with plasticard and with this new glue and more weights.
