How is everyone one coping with the Hot Weather?

I was thinking of getting my airbrush out to spray my Fire Tender hull. But at the moment my Cabin gets up to high temps at the moment. It was 41°C yesterday afternoon in there ! I think the paint would be drying very fast!

I can’t get to my desk in the loft at the moment as we have two of our sons and families staying with us.

I’m getting up before 6 to give my dog a short walk before it’s too hot, him being black doesn’t help.

I’ve started considering what I’m want to build next .

        How about an icebreaker Tim?

My workshop is too hot to spend any time in. I have just been doing some work of Silver Mist fittings for a few minutes at a time. It is frustrating.

Just some ice would be nice, preferably in a nice long drink.

It makes you think when you are at an age when the Health Service tells you not to go out but stay indoors!

Our visitors have all gone out so I’m tempted to have a quick snooze !

Granddad might be volunteered to play games when they get back.

Think I’ll make myself a coffee to keep me going.

            Tim,

Yes, take it easy during the afternoon and drink lots of water! (and maybe some beer!). You really are at risk if you overdo it.

People say ‘oh we are used to this heat on holiday’ but at home you have more humidity, no pool and no air conditioned room to retreat to.

When I stopped driving abroad I noticed the heat a lot more. We were used to spending the morning driving around in Greece visiting place of interest and then hopping back to our air conditioned hire car.

Yes we had done hot days in Italy, and America but it did make the beer taste better.

The worst was my youngest son’s wedding in Malaysia. 34 degrees, in a suit, walking in procession to to the brides family home for the ceremony! At least I didn’t have to wear traditional costume like the groom and my eldest son.

Hopefully we will get a bit of a respite this week!

Looking at my vegetable plot, we may need to grow different varieties of vegetables. Very little seems to be growing to any size. We don’t have a hosepipe ban but are being asked not to use them to water the garden.

Guess that means the prices of  vegetables etc in the supermarket will go up!

I have the web server and firewall sitting behind me on the sofa – the temperature in the attic would have killed it. As a precaution I’ve also moved all the heatshrink downstairs as well. Luckily, I don’t store any plastic hulls up there…

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I have checked 3 models in my cabin over the last two days. Only one is a plastic conversion, Italieri S100, no problems that I can see. I have a few more in there to check yet.</p>

I’ve just attended two funerals in the last couple of months and was asked if I could wear my blue merchant navy uniform, with cap!  I certainly cooked in that!

Workshop gets up to nearly 30 in the afternoon so I have a potter in the morning then retire to the house for the rest of the day.  I guess 30 years spent around the Caribbean makes me a bit more tolerant but it still affects blood pressure, which is on the low side already, so I can feel unpleasant at times.

My Dad spent the war in the RAF in India and Burma. The Summer heat never seemed to bother him but he hated being cold in the Winter.

Just fitted a replacement toilet seat as the soft close mechanism on the old one had failed. That’s my job for today, on my knees in the smallest room….

I actually much prefer being cold Tim, and round about getting into my last month on the ship would always be looking forward to getting home and cooling down!

I re-roofed the workshop (wall  4 inch grey celcon blocks)at the end of the garden some years ago with metal roofing panels ( like you see big industrial units made from) and underneath i insulated it with 50mm expanded polystyrene. You cant believe the difference this makes to the temperature inside. Generally it remains quite bearable inside despite being blasted by the sun during the day.

Over a long period of heat the inside gradually equaliser with the outside, but leaving the door ajar overnight does lower the temperature for the start of the day( when I close the door in tne morning).

So saying,  I have not actually done much lately as the heat sort of drains you and I lose the will to sit in the shed in the warm  fiddling with stuff.

I think, unfortunately, that comes with age and retirement. In that there is always tomorrow.

I took my RAF Tender down to my cabin 3 weeks ago to spray the hull! It’s either been too hot or too windy so far. Or I find something else to do.

I’m off to play golf this pm, only 9 holes, I am hoping it’s not too hot. But the beer will be cold when I get home!

Just got back from walking my dog and it’s only just getting up to 20°. Nice breeze as well in the East Midlands.

Garden could do with some rain though, even the weeds aren’t growing.
