        Mushroom vents and handrails, perhaps?

There is just room in the hull for a small 6v pump if you want to make working monitors…

Handrails are done. Will have a look at some mushroom vents.

          Fire monitors would need remaking.

I have working monitors on a Robbe Dusseldorf and a German rescue boat.

Yes, they would need redoing. I have a requirement to do some 3d print plans for working ones, but way down on my list!

here are some shots of the prototype. You can see how the water goes in. The pump is mounted under the towing hook deck (I had to change the bulkhead), and there’s a little radio switch next to it. The water comes in through a reinforced hole in the bottom…

Incidentally, you can see how I handled the mast – it simply folds down, and some elastic holds it up when I fold it back…

I might have another look at my mast to make fold down. I made the mast fold down on my Graupner Bernhard Gruben. That used small plastic hinges magnets and some aluminium struts.

Magnets are tricky. Too strong and they just rip out of their mountings, too weak and they are useless.

The smal neodymium magnets can be very ferocious. Magnetic necklace clasps are a good strength without being over the top,  and have a bit if depth to them for gluing in.

I think the trick with neodymium magnets is getting the right size.  They come in a fairly wide range of sizes, which basically determines their attractive force so you have the flexibility to select just the one you want.  I’ve used them a few times and think they are an excellent solution for holding bits and pieces in place on the model.

First up, these two side lockers are held in place by magnets on the lower edge.  They hook under the thwart at the top and click into place at the bottom, hiding the battery and the electronics.

Then similarly this steering gear hatch is held with a couple of small magnets on either side.  None of them are two strong so the covers remove very easily by hand but its just enough to ensure that they are never going to come adrift in operation.

I have used small (3mn) Neodymium magnets on some models without a problem so far. I have some lager ones (12mm) which can be a problem to get apart.

Some pics of Neodymium magnets on my OSA 1 Missile Boat (Eezebilt).

The magnets are 10mm square and locate on thin metal. The are locating pins as well.

I hadn’t thought of making the missile boxes ‘knock-off’. Is that to simulate battle damage?

I see the boat has a North Korean flag? Does that make you the Respected Comrade Kim Tom Cop? Any American aircraft carriers on the lake had better watch out!

Are you using the rudder shape as shown on the plan? It’s an odd shape, but seems to work well. I was worried about the long thin hull rolling badly in a turn under torque, but was quite surprised at how stable it was in high-speed turns. A pic of the prototype doing a tight turn on a test run is below…

The flag is the Russian Naval Flag. At least that’s what it was sold as!
                            <p style=”text-align: left;”>The rudder is  just a std brass one as bought.</p>
The missile boxes being easily removable gives easier access to the inside of the hull. The gun turrets are connected to mini servos to give some left to right movement. The mast radar and the drum tilt radar both rotate. With Nav lights and a stern light I thought easier access would be useful.

I used the basic Eezebilt plan but changed some of the parts, main mast, drum tilt radar, guns etc using articles from Model Boats mag.

The railings were  based on the ones in the MB series of articles. Brass tube, brass wire at the bottom, brass loop at the top and the wire railing used metallic sewing thread.

Not much progress in the last month, as I been busy in the the garden and with some woodworking  projects.

I have just started painting the deck and cabin with brushed acrylic paint.

I will have to get the air brush out or get some rattle cans for the hull.

                                    Unfortunately the boat isn’t ready.

They need to go to the Quartermasters Stores to be get the appropriate sea going gear!

Have now dipped therm in Future Floor Polish. This gives them a scratch resistant coat. Another coat tomorrow when it’s dry.IMG_20260522_153559

                                                Looks like Glass 100ml

I have some but not used it really. I have just dipped a piece of clear styrene in it and hung it up to dry. I will report back tomorrow. It seems to be well regarded by plastic modellers.

However, the main benefit of Future Floor Polish aka Pledge was that it produced an extremely hard finish which is one of the reasons it found favour with plastic modellers.

My bottle still looks fairly full. I usually put it in a clean Jam Jar and then tip it back into the bottle. It has a slightly yellow tinge after all these years but not noticeable on the dipped glazing.
