id have still had to make the smaller door bob which I did but wasn't quite satisfied with having looked at it fot a while……

      and so,.,,,,

went for a drive out to see the TYNE at Glasson this afternoon as I wasn't satisfied with the shape of the W/T door….couldn't get on board but was able to photograph the door from different angles giving me a clearer view of the top and bottom of the door……..and so adjusted that by adding about 4 mm to both top and bottom of the door and then a little filler to make the curve a little less sharp.1st job.

then I made the bracket and ruffle hole at the stern for hauling the boat onto the slip[when slip launched obviously.] 2nd job.

my last job of the day was to cut and fit the surrounds for the slats for the engine room vents. I then cut to size some slatted pieces from a mould I made years ago…..not much remaining sadly and think I gave the mould away with all the other moulds, after building the Clyde. I then fitted the slats into the frames.

I added the ducting from the cabin interior to the engine room starboard extractor/ventilator, and the mini console for the flying bridge to the E R vent,

and then it was time to attack the W/T door which I was finally almost satisfied with the shape that turned out.

I had decided to make it opening and so had make both parts for the hinges……..the staples on the door, and the brackets on the cabin wall. also cut the window out after making the outer surrounds…….

amazingly all procedures went well……….a miracle with this build, lol. I am going to detail the door with "rivets" next, but will have to wait until the next break in New Tricks before I go into the workshop to get the materials, but for now here is the work pre cleaning up.

          Hi Neil

As I was panning down the page, looking at your door pictures

I thought it would be nice if the door opened

Got to your last picture……And there it was…..An opening door!

          Great minds think alike, hey?

the port and starboard aft bulkhead window apertures, and frames temporarily.

              and then

a Thursday afternoon. persisting it down since early morning and so I decided to make the support frame for the flying bridge grating that the helm, coxs'n and search crew stand on when on an SAR shout.

the grating I hope will be printed in two parts. the main grating, and the smaller sunken area just in front of the main W/T door into the cabin.

I hope also that the person who has said that they will be able to get it all scanned from both the drawings of the grating, plus the frame that I have just made will still be able to do so by scanning what I draw.

but for now, the grating frame. made totally from plasticard.

that's a filler primer matey……..fills all the scratches and imperfections….it will have 3 – 4 coats of that all over the boat…

but I wont be doing it or the top coats.

my friend Dave Stavros Jones who is a professional car body repairer and sprayer has volunteered to spray the boat for me, knowing how impatient I am at painting, when all the pieces are in place that need to be painted orange blue or red oxide..

he is going to paint the boat in two pac paint in the spray room.

just like he did for me with these two.

Well……My regards to Stavros and Phil Button too

Both nice chaps, we used to met to them at Llanberris and the good old Colwyn Bay annual regatta and the shows of course

                      Hello Neil

As always you have produced a superb standard of build, no matter how messy I make my workshop I still can't manage your level of skill.

will pass on your message Bob.

well it was like Christmas for a 5 year old today……my new propellers from PROPSHOP have arrived, and I am almost orgasmic………they are beautiful.

I just cannot understand how Simon Higgins can sell them for that price. he has to cast them in bronze, drill and tap them with the thread ordered, in my case 4mm, and then grind them down, balance them for weight and then polish them to such a lovely sheen………..no soldering….all for only 25 quid each.

                          they are beyond words!

I have started marking out and drawing the grating parts for the platform at the rear of the cabin.

it will be in two parts……….the main grating and the sunken step in front of the W/T Door. then all parts will be off to a 3D printer to have one done to see if it all works as I hope it should. the card drawings will then be transferred on to drafting paper .

I also started the small raised platform for the helmsman, and what I can only think is a galvanised steel cover for something that sits on the deck under it.

there is one final small locker that sits just to the left of the small console attached to the starboard engine room vent, but am going to start that now. however I cannot fit that as it protrudes from deck level to above the grating, which will eventually have to be cut to facilitate the locker.

but certainly don't want to start hacking holes in that before it is printed

enjoying it very much Bob…….it has been less than a month since I started the build, and one of the main features is almost ready. .I actually sailed on the actual boat a few times, and steered her both in daylight and by buoy and radar assistance one evening.

as for 3d printing……it is going to accurately print out the frame for me, and the grating that goes into the frame which is a very delicate piece of the aft structure, which I wouldn't without 3d printing be able to model.

these are 2 pictures of the real boat and you can see that the plastic would be wafer thin at 12th scale, but if 3d printed the structure will as a whole be quite strong.

I think your latest photos mean that the batteries need charging!….?

In other words…….Not got a clue!

oh, good, about not a clue bob, means my ploy about keeping the part secret until I have started producing it as a fitting for a model has worked……….keeping the plagiarists at bay, lol……….nothing wrong with the batteries though..well charged just too light for the flash to kick in and set with a dark card as the base liner for my table top drawing board..….

                                                    just enough to confuse.

I made two "additions" for the aft cabin last night, but for the first time in years I hadn't a clue what they were for on a lifeboat, and I was sure that they weren't structural as they were riveted/bolted onto the front faces of the two extensions to the aft cabin, but were covering something.
now, not all Tynes' had them, and those Tynes that did have them had a multitude of different shapes as I have pictures of the RNLB Garside, and others on a hard standing at Fleetwood taken a few years ago, and she [Garside] didn't have them fitted.
and so I asked my friend Rob Baines what they were. He was crew on our Tyne
Here was Rob Baines' reply." they are Compressed air tanks for the self righting bags on top of the aft cabin, they where only fitted to the boats re-engined with D-dec engines.
When the D-dec engines were fitted the geometry of the boat changed making then unable to self right so the air bags were fitted triggered from a gyro switch in the roof of the wheel house."
Further to that, I bought a small tin of polyester resin so that I could reinforce- the top corners of the cabin running down port and starboard so that I can "round" the edges off sufficiently to look correct.
