The workshop has finally ground to a halt!………Quite sad really, got nothing to do!

It feels very heavy?……..Transportation truck required!

That should keep me quiet for a short time……..Bob

            Hello Phil,

Thanks for your kind comments……..I`ve got a good video camera somewhere, but I`ve  forgotten how to work it!  The last time I used it, was 5 years ago….. I`ll fish it out and have a play….suppose it will need a new battery?

Haven`t sorted the charging out yet………Still got some gear lost in the post!

              Hi Bob,
A model of this class merits a separate camera crew leaving you free to concentrate on the the business in hand.  How about your local TV station?
               What about timekeepers?
              Rick.

Hello Rick……..Thank you also for your kind words

It`s a pity the weather is so bad lately…..(It`s snowing right now, here in Manchester)…..The big sailing debute is quite a time off……at least a month?

I`m not very optimistic about any dashing about, as it feels very heavy now?

I`m predicting a heavy bow wave……Which fellow members will find very annoying……..So I had better be careful and considerate, when the time comes

However, it should be a great crowd puller at the regattas!

I`ve got a realistic sound unit, I could instal, but the extra weight could be a problem

I’ve got a silly idea now Bob you say a sound unit maybe to much weight! Did you not as a child/young person ever use a spring clothes peg and piece of card clipped to the forks of your push bike to rub on the spokes to simulate a motor sound. Well your cooling fans and some flexi plastic strip combined with that double bass sound box you call a hul Hmmm perhaps not (well I did say it was silly)

Phil (having a really random thought)

You probably won`t believe this……I have already given this idea some thought!

Great minds think alike!….So they say?

At the moment………The motor drive sounds very harsh with 7.2 v……..What will it sound like with 24v??????

The sound unit was originally in a big boxy Broom and the normal motor sounds …….drowned out the sound unit!

Something to mess with, in the near future no doubt……….Bob

Great minds indeed Bob, or is it a case of fools seldom differ?  I would imagine the sound from the motor will quieten on the water, you could try some styrene foam packing in the empty spaces in the hull, that would reduce its resonance somewhat.

                                  Work in progress……….
At last, a place for everything!
It`s been quite a struggle sorting out a good spot all the gear for easy installation and access, etc

The drawer at the front contains the Rc, battery, Esc In-line regulators and all the loose untidy wiring and slides neatly out of the way.

Haven`t started on the charging process yet……….It`s a bit of a daunting task at the moment

Don’t worry, Len. When Bob sees the effect of the full 24v across those motors he’ll think twice about the wisdom of retaining those paddle-blades.
Bob – don’t forget; no more than 2A charge rate (for 2 3/4hrs)for the first few times. Time-consuming but necessary.

Cheeky beggar! It’s a little difficult to write “Two and three-quarter hours” in figures on this forum. Does one use 2. 3/4 or 2 3/4 or 2.75? Anyroad, let’s recalculate – three hours and fifteen minutes will do the job @ 2A, after which they will be fully charged. After a few charges you can build up to a charge rate of 5A (for about an hour and twenty minutes) from discharged. ‘Discharged’ for those packs is ten volts on load.
I have no ideas how long a motor run you will get. That is a function of several variables. These include temperature, how long you run at high-speeds, prop pitch/size (aka ‘load’), charge time etc etc. How long is a piece of string? You’ll find out these things with experience.
As for retaining charge etc, hey – I only sell the things; I didn’t invent them! Go Googling, Bob – there’s oodles of stuff out there on NiMH cells.
If you go onto this website http://www.component-shop.co.uk/  and click on the Batteries Explained button then that’s a good start. Our Man Mr Winks has more than a passing acquaintance with them, too.

                                                Thanks Dave

                                                Sorry Dave

                                                I didn`t realise you meant 2.75 hours!……..So it`s that precise, eh?

And then you spoil it all, on the next line and say……3hrs 15 mins!

Now then!………Have you actually had hands-on experience with a boat powered by 24 volts?………Any tips?

I`m running on 7.2 volts at the mo and now running quite smoothly…….I expect that running in water will calm things down……..and should be great fun trying the odd burst for the first time

I`ve yet to finally position the batteries for trim, so I`ve got the chicken and egg situation……getting to the pond with an out of balance setup

Any idea where the boat should balance on the bench?

Thats looking very organised and busy in there Bob.
When you finally get round to it the bty charging thing is a lot simpler than it looks. give me A bell (sorry couldn’t resist ) if you want Bob and I’ll talk you through it. Just not between the 3rd and 9th as I’m off to Yorkshire (must be mad) to visit view the latest edition to the winks clan (Grandson no.5)

as I’m still waiting to order all the bits I want for the homewood and a tug I’m refitting there’s not much inspiration in the shed these days but I’ve not been Idle having mastered some of the intricacies of “delphship” and its compatabilities with Solidedge 2D (Design programmes) and so got my 1st proper design brief off a slipper style launch complete for a mate. Might even build one myself one day,

Its the Hydrostatic line Bob basically a graphical representation of the buoyancy of the vessel along its length. (Paul could probably expand more on this) it does help with determining the balance. That picture is actually the “elevation” view from Delphship (a 3 dimensional drawing program) Also in the prog there is a “perspective” view you can swivel it all over allowing you to view the hull from all angles to check curves etc. Really cool it is.
