p1010131.jpgI pick this wooden hull in a swap with other model boat stuff.

I thought of turning into a cabin cruiser as I have two Perkasa boats already.

Good idea Harry. Or you could turn it into a.n.other sort of torpedo boat perhaps, find something other than a perkasa?

No shaft or ‘owt in the boat?

            Hi Ashley

Removed the deck and found all the forward frames had been wet at one point .

            All the frames totally shot.

So far talking to the old owner, the bet is a case of Corona BEER if I get it back in the water !!!!

So I had cut the keel out to forward of the second frame and made a new one from double 4mm plywood.

Next will be new bow frames.

I think I am going to earn this case of beer!!!

              Hi All

Repaired all the bow section back to the second frame which has a large rectangle hole in the middle.

Next is to replace this frame and set the rest of the new keel into place.

                Hi All

Installed frame 2 and setup the keel.

Changing the stern section to vee bottom and cutting off the stern back to the last frame.

Do you have to leave a certain proportion of the original boat to win the beer?

                        Hi All

Saving the sides, top stringers, a third of the bottom stringers and bottom skins !!!

All the frames, lower stringers and stern installed.

Whilst glue is drying, restarted an old project and trying to finish my French fishing boat(like the Eileen/Hellen).

The hull is back in one piece with a few edges to fix, but over all happy with it so far.

Fibreglass forward of frame 2 tomorrow.

Fibreglass the forward section of the boat just before the weather change to low cloud and rain !!!

Ran the blow heater of a hour to get the fibreglass to harden up.

Added two deck stringers today and skinned the deck with balsa.

Spread the glue out on the underside of the balsa to seal it.

More glue on the contact sections.

                                  Hi Dave

We are doing well as an island below Australia we are more isolated .

Our two trips out only to supermarkets for supplies.

Re supplies the beer and boat building materials last week !!!

As our daughter is an age career and the son in law a police officer we get the right info on all what we can and cannot do !!!

I think Tassie will come out of it quicker than Australia, but with restrictions.

                                    Hi All

Blackwood veneered the deck and sealed with wood sealer.

Adding two coats of gloss vanish then an experiment with permanent marker pen( .03) for planking.

Hoping by sealing the wood first that I will not get bleeding with the pen.

Add two more coats of vanish after that to seal .

If it fails I will only have to rub it back a bit, but not back to the veneer!!!!

Harry. I have found that thin marker pens seem to go dry when lining on painted surfaces. Perhaps I have not been using decent pens, or there is a difference on their performance on different paint surfaces.

Youmay like to try a test piece first? Or use the pencil on unsealed wood trick (then varnish)

                                        Hi Ashley

The pen I am going to try is a Unipin fine line by Mitsubishi Pencil.co.ltd.

I tested on paper and white plastic and if left for 15/20 seconds will not rub off.

The rubbed back vanish should make a good surface for the pen.

                                          Hi Harry,

Have you tried a water based varnish ? I find it leaves the timber much lighter in colour than the normal oil based yacht varnish, this showing the lines drawn rather better 😀

Added chine and forward spray rails.

My experiment has worked fairly well with little bleeding.

                                            It's not a 100% but passable.

Another few coats on top to finish it.

21 tomorrow so a good day for painting.

So a big day out (133.6 KM) and three hours mowing on the ride on mower!!!

It was high tide and very calm, but I did not take a boat.

As it was only got home at 6PM.
