      Hi Ashley

A four wheeled road trailer is the obvious transport solution but launching has a whole new set of conundrums as the problem with trailers is the need for a slipway.

Not if the trailer has an extending slide on it???

The trailer would have to be heavier than the item in question or the whole thing will topple into the water, this remains the major design problem regardless of the handling system.

Well then how about a separate launching system. Just to throw it out there, how about an aluminium ladder which could be attached to the rear of the trailer and used as a slipway?? The ladder would be separate from the trailer, and could have a decent reach so minimising the launch angle. Blocks of wood (or car jacks/whatever) could be used to support the run on the ladder to prevent collapse.

              HI Ashley

Aluminium ladder + 500kg load = bent ladder and red faces all round, but the system you describe is similar to a transporter called a 'beaver tail' which does have distinct possibilities for a launch/recovery machine.

Could always use removable ballast……..this would reduce the heaviest lift weight to just over 200kg.

Was not necessarily suggesting the use of a flimsy ali ladder, more like introducing the concept.

Removable ballast I think is the way to go. Use a pair of car batteries for a start perhaps, and possibly the water ballast option ?? One day I will build a gash hull and build in water ballast space just to see the practicalities of it.

Trevor used 2 pint milk containers filled with pond water for his 2m corvette . Was a bit of a faff, but it got the job done and of course the empty containers were easy to transport to and from the pond. Perhaps gallon containers in the QE case?? Fitted in a grid to locate them and stop them moving?

                    Hi Ash

Water ballast would be an ideal solution but water doesn't have sufficient mass to make it a viable option. Concrete blocks are a better option as gram for gram it is 2.5 times heavier than the equivalent volume of water.

It then means carrying that amount of concrete around of course, but if you want big you have to be prepared to have the pain.

Could always use a combination of removable lead pieces and water tanks.

Why not just make a smaller model?

There is no fun in building small.

                              There's no backache either……and it's cheaper…….and quicker.

I've had over 50 years fun building small but whatever floats your boat of course.

The main reason for building such a large model would be the ability to fly scale helicopters from the flight deck, this would make a very impressive model which could be used for fund raising for the Royal British Legion.

Flinging glider F35B`s from the ramp would be more impressive!!
