      Hi Chris

Do not look for the divorce Barbie, too pricey, but, you do get all Ken's stuff as well !!!

      Flo PINK !!!

A nice 750kv 35mm motor on 2S would be about 5400 rpm no load.

I did not say I was not a speed merchant , heaven to Bessie !!!!

Definitely needs a driver… although SOME dislike drivers and prefer their boats to be realistically driverless.devil

I could have Lady Penelope in the boat then!

Mmmm, what shades of pink to go for?

There is NOTHING realistic about a Barbie doll, Ashley – unless folk down your end of the country are assembled from a very different set of parts to the ones used oop 'ere. IMHO dolls usually turn models into toys whereas a proper scale driver [i.e. one resembling a human being] often adds to the realism.

            Yeah – whatever…

I think a 35mm diameter motor would be a bit too big physically. A 28mm would be easier to fit in a small hull like this one and would easily swing a 35mm 3-blade prop at that sort of speed. Chris could probably get scale speed with a couple of clicks on the throttle trim.

As promised, this photo comes from Peter Twiss's collection by kind permission of the Fairey Owners Club. My man reckons it's more like 20 feet than 23 feet long but I would beg to differ. Anyway it had a 20hp engine fitted under the cockpit floor and running a single shaft. That's Peter T at the helm – a little more leisurely than the 'driving' he is most usually noted for. Even with that rather clumsy rear cabin I reckon it's drop-dead gorgeous.

Yes, must admit that it does look very nice but just a bit cramped maybe.

Ditch the rear cabin and fit a fold down hood to give it the appearance of a classy Aerokits Sea Rover. You could then get a couple of full length berths under canvas in the cockpit that double as seats during the day.

As it was designed as a river cruiser I dare say the rear cabin was an attempt at providing more roof cover. Yes I suppose a bit longer boat would have been nice but where do you stop??? Only the one was built so that says it all really. Whereas folk may pay a bit more for style and speed for the normal Fairey fodder, it may be that the cruising market has a much different customer base.

Was it a bit more "beamy" than usual perhaps??

DM. was not inferring a Barbie is realistic…never said that. Inferring that having NO driver was unrealistic. However we will agree to disagree on this point, as its a personal taste thing.

I'm with Dave on the length. The hull of the River Cruiser is said to have been formed using the mould for the Huntress. Yes, it could have been easily reduced to 20' from 23' but why bother?

20' is a bit tight for a two cabin boat, though it has been done and if it was shorter then why have a longer front cabin than the Huntress? Fine if it was just the front cabin and a smaller cockpit and no rear cabin.

Anyway, 23' is what I've been working from (used the same photo that DM has posted), I'm happy with the proportions (having increased the freeboard a little more) and the drawings are progressing.

Nothing will be done this weekend as I'm away but it shouldn't be too long now before I start building – have already moved some of the stuff back out of the workroom.

The design has grown on me and I can't wait to get started.

After a bit more tweaking to the build drawings (I can't help myself!) I've done enough to start building the hull. I'll leave off finishing those for the superstructure until building of the hull has progressed otherwise I'll never get started!

I've already got most of what I need for the build but I'm lacking some small section timber. I don't really want to order it online so I'll see what Homebase have got. If nothing suitable I'll have to bite the bullet and order some plus some additional plywood etc. to make the order worthwhile.

At least I'm making use of the prop shaft that was intended for the Swordsman before I decided a longer one would be better and would reduce the angle.

That looks just the business, Chris, with the bonus that no-one can tell you it's not correct. I forgot to ask what scale you're building to – it's not mentioned anywhere in the thread.

Thanks Dave, I'm pleased with how it has turned out.

When working on the frames I was worried that I'd overdone the freeboard but working on that side view put my mind at rest.

Scale is 1:12, the same as the other boats I'm building and your lovely Huntress.
