        Captain Sir Horatio Isambard Abell

As this is a hightec ship I would like to do a model that reflects this, one that will challenge my design skills and your building skills.

I want to produce a super lightweight 6ft model that is split into three sections (2 for the hull, 1 for the superstructure) that when assembled can be easily carried in one hand, takes on ballast when launched and releases the ballast before removal from the lake. I also would like to include extra items such as gun platforms with rotating and elevating barrels, opening hanger doors and helicopters that move out from the hanger and onto the flight deck.

        Over to you Bob

6 foot sounds a nice size to be impressive

Might not split the hull though

Have you got a piece of Carbon Fibre to show us?

Bob Captain Sir Horatio Isambard Abell

As Ashley often reminds us 6ft boats wont fit in most cars so in order for Kevin to be able to build and sail the model it will have to be split.

This is a photo of the carbon fibre edge on

You can see how thin it is

              Very droll

But 10/10 for wit and originality!

I could build it in two halves anyway and decide later whether to split or not?

On the picture the hull sides are vertical but on the concept drawings the hull sides are curved. This will make the model far easier to build.

                        Hi Paul

Can't see any curved sides anywhere?

Looking at the last photo……It looks completely uncluttered

Why?…….There's no hand rails for starters

                        No port holes……?

                        No aerials

                        No life belts either

                        Is this a real photo?

The decks are uncluttered because the ship has to have a small radar reflection.

I am sure I have seen hand rails, and modern h&s would demand them. They may plug in when needed or be folded flat. For todays operations they would also need small weapons stations to fend of rubber boats backed with Dynamite, probably also portable.

I think they have copied the design from Nemo`s Nautilus sub from the film "Extraordinary league of gentlemen" . A cracking vessel to be sure and something I would like to have a go at, if it were not for all the scroll work (tricky if not v difficult) and the funny cone shaped drive system…although this might be an interesting challenge.

Here are a selection of photos taken as the ship left port for sea trials.

                              zum 16.jpg

The different coloured section of the upper superstructure is made from carbon fibre and houses radar and radio equipment.

The ship is this odd angular shape to fool other radar systems into identifying it as a fishing boat.

I like your pictures…..The ship looks sinister and awesome and will make a nice model

I wouldn't like to walk that deck without the handrails!

Bob is it an optical illusion but the hull sides on this photo seem a lot more vertical than the sides on the photos taken before the sea trials.

It is a true stealth vessel as it has never been seen.

All of the shipyard workers had their minds wiped clean so that they couldn't divulge anything. The design team hasn't been seen in months.

                                                    Hi Ashley

Someone who shall remain nameless …BOB…has spread this thread into the Merry Christmas postings.

The answer to you question about engines is as follows

                                                    • 2 × Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbines (35.4 MW ea.) driving Curtiss-Wright electric generators
                                                    • 2 × Rolls-Royce RR4500 turbine generators (3.8 MW ea.)
                                                    • 2 × propellers driven by electric motors
                                                    • Total: 78 MW

The only unusual thing about the ship is that the electric can either be used in propulsion or the weapon system (look up rail gun)

Paul, I thought so . all that multiple motor business spread be cap`n Bob, a red herring.

The massive over generation on modern ships seems to be the thing nowadays, no one knows how much power they will need in 10 years time.

Its sobering to think of the cost of these ships and they haven't even got all the techy stuff that was supposed to have been fitted!! One wonders that they should in fact build more, this would drop the unit price effectively by spreading the development cost over more vessels.

I am thinking man made board for all but the pyramid which would need to be balsa as its frightfully top heavy for a model ? It must sit on its bottom when at speed surely there is not much up front to generate much in the way of hydrodynamic lift.
