Well, just caught up with a program on a new ship for the US Navy. What a ship. Catamaran hulled, Water jet powered monster. Able to do 50 knots and go into water about 11 feet deep.

The stern has a ramp which can be lowered to deliver an 11 foot RIB to the sea whilst still doing about 10 knots. Helos can land day or night (interesting green lights around deck edge and island tower) whilst doing said 50 knots.

She looks a bit ugly, compared to the other littoral ships she gave birth to, but WOW.

Hi Andy, watched that last night on Quest An amazing ship but a lot older than I first thought

The concept was designed by Norris Brothers in England in 2005 .I would say it is UGLY full stop but she can do more than most ships in the modern Navy.

Water jet propelled in a boat 262 ft long knocked my socks off .Will be looking forwards to its next showing.winkMichael

            Hi Mike

Did not realise she was that old either. I do love Quest though for its interesting ship programmes.

Could one of you chaps provide an Internet URL, please? I'm curious to see what you're all talking about.

Thanks for that, Paul. I'm not tempted to build one but it was nice to be reminded of "Classical Gas"!

                      Dear Kevin

Having watched the show and googled the ship I was surprised at how much design information is available. There is certainly enough information to enable the detailed design of a model and to suit model boat equipment (motors etc) a 3ft version would be ideal.

At 3ft the builder would also have the option of developing the mission deck and its small boat launch & recovery system.

If anyone fancies trying their hand at designing this would be an ideal first try.

Two Brutus hulls joined by a deck wouldn`t be far off?

I was just passing by and spotted your post

                          Hello Captain Bob

Trust you to pick up on another adaptation for one of our designs.

Unfortunately the underwater hull shapes of the Sea Fighter are significantly different and it would be easier to draw a new design rather than chop up the existing one.

The Brutus hull is far more suited to the non project that I am not building.

                          Paul

yes that's a double negative and just goes to prove that two wrongs don't make a non model
