      Widgeon at full speed

This is my refurbished Wavemaster bought on ebay a few years ago and completed fairly recently. The hull was riddled with woodworm and the keel and some frames were badly de-laminated. It was all patched up and a new shaft and rudder installed. With a Graupner 700 running on 12v, an Electronize 30amp esc and 2 x 3s Lipos running in parallel, she goes very well. There are more pictures in my album.

          Ian,

What size is this model from yesteryear? and Did Dave Wigging refurbish one in a Collectors Corner (mini) in MB some time ago?

A lovely model, nice to see.

          Tony.

            Tony,

It's 33'' long- not sure whether Dave Wiggins did one, someone else might know.

I find that I don't particularly enjoy refurbishing old models, preferring to build from new. It's difficult to know how far back to go with them. Ironically, a laser cut kit of this boat has been produced by IP Engineering since I bought this, and I might have been tempted to build from new had I known.

            Thanks for the interest…Ian

Yet again you have produced a very nice example of a true classic and this time it is one that I have always wanted to have a crack at. Used examples rarely come up for sale on fleabay and when they do I am always outbid

I like the way that you capture the vintage feel by using period colours.

                Thanks Paul,

Yes, I'm a sucker for these old boats, but as you say, some of the ebay ones fetch silly money and can be in a dreadful state. Funnily enough, I haven't thought of them as period colours- just the ones I like.

As I said, you can get a new kit of Wavemaster now- about £90 I think, laser cut and from The Vintage Boat Company (I think, haven't double checked that). It's a really nice running hull- Les Rowell knew his stuff.

Sorry I haven't contributed to your hovercraft thread, but I'm afraid the technicalities left me behind a while ago! I do follow it though.

                Hope you're well…Ian
