      Hi,

Hello builders. I do build models but today that is not my need. I am looking to create a painting of the Whitby Watson lifeboat. I have a bunch of ref photos and some diagrams gleaned from internet searches to use as my base material. but in areas they are not detailed enough for the relative position of equipment and boat structure. My ref photos introduce perspective that means I am not getting things right.

What I am after if anyone has it, is a reasonably detailed side view drawing of either the Mary Ann or a similar Watson boat.

Note I am not looking for detailed plans to build a model from, just a good side view that has good detail so I can do the picture I want and get it accurate.

      Any assistance greatfuly received.

      Regards

      leigh

          Conrad,

I can't help you with drawings but there is a preserved example of a Watson, Susan Ashley, at the Chatham Historic Dockyard.

Also the Ann Letitia Russell was produced in kit form by Metcalf Mouldings and there is quite a bit of information online if you google Ann Letitia Russell model.

Thanks for the pics Paul. I must confess that I found those, But the top side was different to the Mary Ann. Gues I am looking for a pic with the cabins better represented.

Thanks for the time to reply Paul and Colin.

                  C.

.AYE, sorry paul, but wrong class Watson….that's the 46'9" or 47' boat…….its been so long since I posted a pic on here I've forgotten how to, but I have some pics of my prototype Watson lifeboat that Metcalf mouldings now produce, and although I based it on fleetwoods lifeboat it was actually the mary ann Hepworth that I photographed to design the lit…….I also have similar miniature plans similar to those paul showed you but of the 41' boat.if someone sends me a link again on how to post pics i'll scan them and do so tomorrow. thanks

                      Hi Conrad

Sorry but it looks like I have led you up the garden path but the real lifeboat expert is my old friend Neil who knows just about everything there is to know about the subject.

                      Hi Neil

I bow to your far superior knowledge in this subject and I know that Conrad is in safe hands with you.

                      All the best

No room for modesty as every decent model builder knows that you are the leading authority on RNLI lifeboats and that you should be proud of it, lifeboats are notoriously difficult to build and you are the master of the craft.

talking of lifeboats, just put a new album up of two sailing lifeboats I made 3 or so years ago………….I particularly liked building these as there was so much wood to colour stain and varnish.

                                  Hi

Your boats are very special, and should be on display at a museum or similar ?

They make my efforts look sad

                                  Kind regards Ray
