Hi All, my old soldering iron needs replacing. I am interested in using a variable temperature soldering iron to enable the construction of complex things such as lattice masts. I have read reviews where builders have used solders of different melting points with a variable temperature soldering iron. Has anybody experience of this? Can one use a simple (cheap) soldering iron such as that on offer by Maplins for £14.99 which has a knob controlled temperature for adjustment 180-480 deg C or must one use a more expensive one like that sold by Hobbystores for £99 which has a selectable temperature 5–450 deg C? Also – where can get suitable solders?
