My son has come up with another little program that is useful – and fun.
This one works on mobile phones. You measure out a set distance at the pond, Use the phone app to time your boat traveling it and it will give you a scale speed in mph, kmh or knots.
Works on any mobile phone using android. You can download it for free from: https://market.android.com/search?q=scale+mate&so=1&c=apps
If you’re not sure how to install it, ask a teenager.
His other program is a simple calculator that converts 1:1 measurements into any scale in imperial or metric. Works on PC or mac. You can get a free copy from: http://www.botsuite.com/shipshape.html
On this subject, my (new) car satnav has a “foot” mode, and registers speed, so by jogging, or running by your boat, you could achieve the same thing !
