Hmmm. Not keen, a bit of a mish mash for my liking. If I get egged on enough I MAY rethink, but I have …stuff.. to do yet.

Not built a hovercraft yet either.

TG have done the main research for you – estimate power needed … quadruple it.

Have you built the hovervan yet, I've got a nice 35cc engine that would make a great lift and push motor.

I wonder just how much compensation the Beeb had to pay to the riverside restaurant that the three stooges almost destroyed? Not to mention the poor soul who was tipped into the water from his rowing boat. Larf? Not arf!
As for a model, it would have to be Depron (small) or Correx (bigger); none of your hardboard here.

Thinking about this. The Solent Hovercraft that was designed by Ricky webb for another well known model boat magazine would make a good base for the Hover van. It has an A4 flat base to it and could be adapted to run a van body. Maybe a 5" blade to provide lift and another in the back to provide thrust, 2 small brushless motors and a Lipo. What do you think Ashley.

                          I lied.

I have ignored any and all advice

of course I had to make it.

And I will look forward to watching it.

I personally find your projects ! extremely interesting , and the article in Julys issue was well done, and great pictures.

I am sure some will disagree but although I find the well built models (not saying yours are not ) nice to look at and only wish I could build as well as some of the modellers here I find yours more interesting to watch.

A good example of this would be some of the shows where we get general models sailing, they attract a crowd, but not half as big a crowd as when the Ribble club use their Pollux's to play football, or when the Teddy bear lifeboat team are on the water.

Basically what I am trying to say is that to me your models epitomizes what Modelling is all about. Keep it up..Just waiting for your next crazy Idea .

Having "driven" the Hovervan for some of Ashleys photos I can honestly say it does work.

Its quite a handful and takes all your concentration even in the lightest of breezes.

Rest assured that we have more than our fair share of oddball boats / watercraft / wildlife in Bushy Park.

The `van will be at the park tomorrow, providing it is not tipping down with rain.

Now I have a set with more than 2 channels I am going to get a little something to enable me to switch the lift motor off remotely, so it can float about while we chat. there are devices available that just plug into one channel and by electronic means switch things off or on. I only need something around 5A capacity.

It was low battery that caused the realistic breakdown of a top gear vehicle a few weeks ago. The battery got a bit low and the aircraft esc cut out, but the lift motor kept on going (as will be seen when I post the video , it does a funny little dance when stationary)..dropping the voltaqe further and leading to embarassment.

If I had been able to cut out the lift fan it would have been ok to get back to shore.

Long. I know what you mean. After a while trolling through a show with any number of fabulous boats about one gets a bit blase (cant find an accent) and the old eyes glaze over and all of a sudden..wow..something different…interest once more wink

I may or may not run out of interesting and/or silly things to make, but just when you run out of ideas….wham….the telly gets turned on..

Just for Paul T I have posted a picture of the non-computer aided design method I favour when building things.

Firstly you will notice the cat, she was helping to make sure it didnt fly away. You will also notice the graphical 3-d effect I am able to get with corrugated card. Using this method of design i am able ACCURATELY portray the finished item, and even sollotape bits of equipment in to check the design for C of G and stability and so on. Go on, cry yer eyes out, the beauty of my method,

Secondly the other item with this design is the volume of spray generated, I mentioned it in the article but although it does not seem to bad when the beast is some yards out, after a very small period of time it is fully drenched inside and out (the fans suck all the spray inside the body).

Thirdly, of all the things I have built this is undoubtably the "cleanest"..the whiteness and purity of the colours harmonising to produce……..a van on a tray, as this is what it amounts to, but it is pretty. Sharp..thats what I like in a paint scheme..sharpness.

The stuff I used for the skirt is quite remarkable and I have a metre of it left. The `van took EXACTLY one metre of the stuff. It glues nicely and bends around , er, bends, without distorting. Good stuff. What can i use the rest for eh??? now theres something to PONDer.
