Hi Harry, nice nozzles, that’s gonna have some grunt! Mind it will have to with all the weight it’s going to have to push around.

Big tugs always weigh in a bit on the heavy side so launch and recovery can be an issue and it’s always people with mobility problems who build them. My stuffs a bit on the lumpy side but it hasn’t thrown my back out——-yet!

Still it could be worse, you could be building an 8ft aircraft carrier, eh Noel! 😂 We’ll have to build a Camel- Laird slipway to get it in the pond!

        Hi Richard

I think he will be using a car trailer with ramps and a four launch trolley!!!

        His four wheel drive has a upgraded from a V6 to a V8 5.7 litre !!!

What were your final thoughts on the best drive system (motor/voltage/prop type & size) for your 20in Landing Craft?

Do you have a picture of one at full speed with this combination?

Chris.  snap at speed  of my original lander, the first one I made, and I don`t think its going quite flat out, and the ferry.

They have all been fitted with 385 motors and S35mm two blade plastic props. A 7.2Nimh fits nicely and depending on how far back the motor is, an 8.4 will fit as well for extra oomph.

A 380 or 400 would of course fit to make it a bit quicker and you get a nice bow wave, but I have kept to a 385 as I often let kiddies drive the landers and generally they just go flat out forwards of back, so the slightly lesser speed is handy. It means they run forever as well!

Thank you Ashley. I think it looks a good spec/speed for my great nephews. I hadn't thought about full speed astern! thinking

Yes the poxy auto wotsit wrote of instead of ‘or’… forwards or backwards should have been.

Paul Thomason did some nice CAD drawn plans for the lander, available on pdf for a small donation to a charity wot escapes me at the moment. Very simple construction, no more than about 12 flat bits and a few strips , all 4m ply.

It’s a wonder more people don’t build them. Excellent sea boat, great recovery boat, bullet proof, can be accessorised no end and is amenable to being built a bit larger (sized for 1/32 scale to suit Airfix etc soldiers) Although not strictly accurate, it is almost there and with a bit of tweaking could make a Really decent model.

I don't really need plans for a models this simple. If it looks right it is right.

The information here is more than enough:

                  Build

                  Plan

When you look at the design the crew were very sadly really easy targets.

Ah yes, that`s the one. I should have had that as a free plan in the mag at the time eh?? Just follow that for guaranteed success!

Tomorrow sat I will recce the pond and see what the state of it is, and post.

Just been to the pond. Jetty weeded up for 20 foot or so! Masses weed about. Not worth going tomorrow I am afraid, unless we have the mother of all storms tonight lasting hours and hours.

Saves having to decide what to take!

Headline news on ‘t inter web news….RN Humiliated as brand new warship breaks down…engine faillure….had to be towed into harbour by tugs.

Realty… probably one engine (out of two) broke down….they made it back to Gib under their own power, and seeing as they only had one prop working, called for tug assistance to berth.

Pet hate….press inaccuracies and doom mongering, always doing the country down.

If they want bad ship news, they should report on the American Zumwalt's, or the Ford carrier…or their “littoral” frigates which are all being flogged off.

Breaking news….just seen the front cover for September mag. Really weird boat on the cover or wot. Should be a fantastic article inside. 😎 great even 🤓🥰

Will struggle with paddler gearing this mornin* in lieu of boating (as weeded up big time).

An interesting set of wheels arrived with my red plastic gear wheels. Several possibilities present themselves.

I guess more people might build them, including the beginner that you recommended them to yesterday, if they were aware of them and there had been a build article and a plan that they could find. As you say it would have made a good free plan and an article that could have been made available permanently on the magazine web site. There isn't even an "album" of the model so I guess new boaters won't find out about them very easily. sad
