I think the boat I had in mind was smaller than Spearfish and had only one jet. I shall consult my oracle Scott and see what he can dig up.

I recall a story he told me about legendary boat designer Sonny Levi, who was once asked why a jet conversion of an Aquarama was so slow and wallowing compared with the prop-driven version, Apparently Sonny took a long drag of his habitually-present ciggy and said "Well – there's the half-ton of water sitting in the jet inlet for a start – you might want to work on that"…

Even worse is that 1/2 ton of water has to be lifted from the inlets on the hull bottom to where the jets exit on the transom. That is another effective increase in displacement and what's worse, the displacement increases as the boat goes faster.

Great system for jetskis and boats that can't have anything sticking out the bottom but very hard on impellers, expensive to maintain. A lot of super-fast ferries use jets.

According to the book the confusingly named Swordsman 30 was built in 2004 and all were fitted with a single diesel and waterjet even though other options were available. This used the Spearfish hull.

              Hi Chris

I near missed that little dig !!!!

But in scale up speed I think my mates Spearfish on or over the 55 Knots.

It's only on 4S and the motor (3648-1450kv) is rated to 6S !!!!

              On 4S 5800mah Lipo

              Prop 2 blade 38mm 1.4 pitch draws 60Amps speed 36kph.

              Prop 2 blade 40mm 1.4 pitch 55Amps 37kph.

              Prop 3 blade 37mm 1.4 pitch 60Amps 37kph.

Have you decided to sell me the Spearfish kit or you going to build it ???

                Hi Harry

                Dig, me!!! smiley

I doubt that I will build it as I'm building the Huntsman 31 Sport. It's getting it to you which is the problem! Certainly at the moment. You can have it for what I paid for it. We can look at posting options once some sense of normality has resumed and see if it is viable for you.

                  Hi Chris

I was told that Interparcel is good( by DM).

                  Also Parcel Post.

Is it the Mark 1 or 2 ??

The Mark 1 had a lift out floor.

The Mark 2 the cabin lifted off.

                      Hi Harry

As you can see from the box you're out of luck, no mention of TAS or even AU! Only GB, D and F. That's a pity! smiley

Is it the Mk. 2 that you prefer?

I've set up an album with more piccies.

                        Hi Chris

Can you find a company that post to Australia, please ????

                        That's one beautiful kit, mate.

I've just entered a guesstimated set of measurements for that kit to Australia through Interparcel and you're talking around £120 plus insurance c/o Fedex Priority. The next cheapest was £160. The carriers who quoted are Fedex, UPS, Parcel Force and TNT.

Yes, not bad is it. From the photos you can probably see there are some yellowish patches on the deck that are under the blue but they are in the area that is to be cut out. Also there is a very minor scradge on the bottom of the hull in the middle. Other than that it is mint.

                                Hi Chris

Looks like I will have to pass on the boat because of postage cost.

As for the kit and age it's the best one I have seen.

                                I enlarge all Chris's pics and it's a dam good find !!!

The Fairy Godfather is not smiling down on me, but I will keep looking.

May have to dig out the Sea Raven and get that finished !!!

                                Cheers and Beers

Once I've built all the other Faireys that I want to I'll maybe build it in the future.

Can't believe the last post date! But as I keep saying I will have five boats ready pretty much at the same time!

As mentioned on another blog I'm painting this hull as well. The whole hull was coated in white primer undercoat to highlight any areas that needed filling. As expected, there wasn't much and minor imperfections were duly filled and once dried and sanded the areas were spot primed and then sanded.

With this hull the sides and transom are going to be white and the bottom blue and this morning I applied the first coat of white gloss. I shall continue applying coats of white until that is finished and then start on the blue.
