Well done Mick. The Swan finally emerges from the cardboard box! You should sail it on your lawn now.

It’s always surprising how much ballast relatively dumpy hulls need, and how shallow the draught is on lighter.models even of a decent size.

Richard. Envious of that workshop! My ‘kitchen trolly’ is a workmate with a bit of kitchen worktop on top.

Hi Ashley ,that’s one of the things I like about this model is its hull shape. The maiden voyage is scheduled for next Saturday at the club Lake, that’s if the weather gods are kind ( just at the moment we are in a torrential rain /thunderstorm period).

          Hi Mick

          What a lovely tug !!!

That 4 blade prop will make the Brush motor work hard !!!

          I tried a 540 80 turn one a 60mm 4 blade in a tug it got very warm !!!!

I was only running on 7.2 volts.

I had a lovely time in Brisbane but that was August last year.

I will stay down south for the summer in Tassie .

I’ve got the same motor battery combo (7.4 lipo) in my trawler and it seems to cope OK with out over heating  . The prop is a 50mm prop so that might make a difference . If it does run hot I will change it for a bigger motor or spin some copper tube around this one and water cool it. I’ll see how it goes

              Hi Mick

Yes the 50mm prop would a lot less load on the motor.

Hope your test run works out OK, dam nice looking tug.

Lovely looking job, beautiful on the water.  Sits just right and has just the right presence.

Thanks Richard . I was amazed at the amount of ballast it took to get her down to the right water level.  There is 5 kg of lead in the hull plus a 6500 sized nic cad battery  it test this old fellows back out getting her down into the water

She should handle nicely as well then and look more realistic than ‘bobbing’ about on the slightest ripple.

That she doesn’t do , she seems to plow through the wakes of the faster boats on the lake . I must admit I looked at her with some pride when a fellow club member remarked ” she behaves just like the real thing on the water “, More by fortuitous accident than design i think, but I will take a win which ever way it comes.

Exactly how we want them to behave, great job.
