Whilst your all weeding up I am finding it hard to find spare time to go boating. Hopefully I will manage to get to Winscar on Thursday and do an hour or two.
A good friend has made me a set of ‘C’ sails for the Dragon. They look ridiculous on the boat but the other week we were sailing in blustery conditions and we all had ‘A’ set on except for him and on the run he thrashed us. The rest of us were playing submarines.

Glad to hear you got a result on the servo Paul.

      Happy boating.

      Brian.

Ashley, it’s up to you tomorrow as I’m not around but the weather looks iffy at best. I’m pencilled in for Thursday morning.

          Thursday then eh?

If it’s nice tomorrow morning I might pop down for some photos of the Swordfish for a bit. Need some “fast” shots.

It’s not looking nice out at the moment. Grey and overcast, not good for snapping, so I will not bother today. See you all hopefully tomorrow…weather permitting.

I am busy painting the really top secret project. Loads of bits to do, and as usual this sort of thing takes time. 1/2 the main propulsion done and just waiting for some acrylic bits now.

Just seen a news item on LCT 7074, the landing craft that was raised from the water in Liverpool (or somewhere north). Transformation or what.

Shame it wasn’t done a few years ago, as I would have based my big lander on it.

All that boat….cost….under £20 for a 4×8 sheet of 3.6mm ply and some wooden battens!

                Hi Ashley

I seem to have a morbid fascination with Landing Craft and the Dukws etc

The tales about them stopping short on the beaches of Normandy etc and the troops simply drowned

We went on a Battlefield Tour of Normandy, a few years ago…….Awesome

How about fitting a Flail and use it as a weed chopper?………That would be interesting, eh?

                Full of good ideas

Just looked it up, recovered from the East float dock in Birkenhead and is going to be restored with a 5million pound lottery grant and then displayed in the D day museum in Southsea. Interesting!

I had a quick look up, it went to Normandy and landed 200 troops and 5 tanks, then was used to take wounded back.

It has been used as a night club (!) in its last few years before sinking.

So….excuse to make an alternative load up?.

                            Swordfish good, Richards galleon/woody/sloop good….

Big LCT bad! I bashed the rudders in the car and knackered the servo. Jet lander ok then started making a noise…prop not touching its jet tube….seems to be the inner tube bearing??? only had 30mins running. I view of the complexity of the thing i am just going to stuff a normal propshaft/prop on it. It looks different with the Australian troops and black/green camo.

Good news I have salvaged a big servo to fit so no probs there.

Made it to Winscar today for 12 races. Weather was perfect with sun and wind🤗

5/6 of us racing so not too crowded on the start line👍

All racing Dragons with varied rigs so we all sailed at different paces at different times in the races with different winners at the end.

A great afternoon was had by all present.

one chap had a footy which I have never seen before, Nice little boat with a good amount of sail made it lively on the water

Fitted a C rig to one of my Dragons today in preparation for tomorrow’s session at Winscar.

Should be reasonably weed free today.

Hydro, Swordfish, Mintanic…..possibly a lander in th3 car for emergencies!

Servo replaced on massive LCT ok.

No weed problems for us at Winscar Ashley, just horizontal rain.

The weather was a bit wild and wet, I must buy some waterproof over trousers. At one stage the water was running off my coat and into my wellies.

We managed a couple of hours and for once i came FIRST. yes

The new C rig needs a bit of tuning but otherwise a great morning.

                                        Horizontal rain…or er!

Was nice Sunday. Good turn out and lots of boats on the water, more than for quite a while.

Only casualty was Trevor’s PT boat, which suddenly could only turn to the left…however upon eventually returning to the bank it looked like the rudder had taken a bash on something….just possibly a big fish and had broken the mount away.

Mintanic, Hydro and Swordfish all going well.

However… when I tried to take some high speed snaps on my newest camera it said the SD card was not capable of taking the speed o& download, meaning I need a high speed card (Ue apparently), so something else to buy.

I have been lazy really. Taking shots with the new camera, a Panasonic bridge-sort with massive zoom, has highlighted the deficiencies of the toddy Canon compact in the “at range” department. The fast boats need lots of zoom in order to fill the frame and not be specs in the distance coupled with a capability to take shots quickly, a facility offer in the form of “4K” shooting….basically taking 30fps movies but at 8mp picture sizes (hence the need for a high-speed memory card)

Will of course need an ultra wide angle lens for Noel’s aircraft carrier which he assures me is almost ready to debut on the pond….at some stage….

And two automotive truck 24v batteries to be connected to give 48v,

Hello. Yes it was a good morning at Bushy yesterday, have been away and busy at weekends so not been down for a while, nice to see people again.

Had a week on the Norfolk Broads recently where we did manage to do lots of boating though, both full sized and models.

Re the carrier, well I am still working my way along building the boat decks, deck extensions, catwalks and other bits that stick out up to flight deck level. I've done everything up to the forward quarters (see examples below). When I have this done I will then work on the bow itself which will need to be carved. The planking will then need loads of filling and sanding as I see it as more of a sub-structure for GRP than a finished hull outer if you get my drift.

                                              img_20200727_115123611.jpg

Sitek has provided 4 propshafts (in 5mm stainless) and 44mm brass props, which look fantastic. Power will be four 800 sized motors I think. Car battery in centre compartment for power and (part of) the ballast.

Why thank you for kind comments. Given I am relying on photographs and the famous Sailor documentary series for reference as much as I am on drawings its NOT going to come out 100% to scale, but the idea is to get it looking correct and in proportion. The flight deck shape was cut by the previous owner and is spot on so thats a good reference to help place everything else. I have side profile drawings too so with that a photographs I am comfortable its generally Right.

Yes for me too it had been a while since being on the broads (26 years) and it was reassuringly exactly the same as then, even with the hoards of people enjoying a UK holiday in lieu of the Med this year there were quiet places to be found especially if you don't mind swing mooring. Its also an unparalleled opportunity to enjoy model boating whilst holidaying!
