Disappointment, flooding on K7 again, with 3s batt and not having hit any fish.

LOL and last week it was all my fault. BUT didn't K7 have perspex spray deflectors fitted at some point in its life to avoid water finding its way into places it shouldn't?

DYou are right Noel. There were some spray deflectors and I might have to see if they can be fitted. Hoped not to need them.

I do have a plan however. The motor in the edf is 3500Kv, which is the spec for use with 4s Lipo. A 4300Kv motor is specked for use on 3s. I bought a 3500 thinking that there would be enough oomph on 3s and it would cut current consumption.

Thus far, if I just had an tiny bit morethrust on 2s it would go ok. So, I will get a 4300Kv motor and this should give me the increased thrust on 2s, and keep the weight down. Sounds Like plan to me…..?

Double guessing an Ashley build is so difficult.

Nice morning at `t pond. Swordfish going well, and Trevor`s Iti racer also going well.

Demo of Swordfish Weds morning for those that have not seen, and for those that HAVE seen, I have made a small alteration.

Modest indeed, and I will be showing the modest improvement tomorrow at boating.

All welcome. You all have nowt to do but come to the pond for a bit of socially distanced fun.

Big and little Titanic's as well.

Chaps impressed by the modest improvement (think: putting merlin engine in a Sopwith camel).

All Titanics operating well, even the ones which weren’t Titanics at the time!

Lovely day, took some nice snaps of Peters new Red fire tug. Impressive size. Monster Kort nozzle. super.

bit peeved as forgot to take the plastic Titanic to photograph…perhaps Sunday…or fri! Or sat!

Sunday will take the Bushy park ferry, as it’s fun for the pondside spectators. Mustn’t forget to take the plastic Titanic and camera either!

Received the 4300Kv motor for the Bluebird fan. Also have to hand now the reversing 40A esc (that look like aircraft ones). Won’t be trying them at anywhere near 40A but will try one on the Walrus and then the Swordfish. Reversing always handy. The Swordfish runs on for about 5 yards from full tilt before stopping, awkward.

3Tomorrow’s boating will be: testing Ecranoplan with new motor, testing Walrus with new rudder, delighting the crowd with my little green alien….

Probably a lander just in case, ferry poss.

Also, started work on the Maxtanic. Top secret this one.

Tomorrow, Gull, Eleanor-Rose and Woody to complement Unidentified Floating Object.

You couldn’t make this up—- went to the pond on Monday and was sailing the Templar ship at the time when a man and his son turn up to watch, “Is that a pirate ship dad?” The father ponders this for a moment then answered. “ No son, but with those red crosses on the sails it must be a Hospital ship”

Its been called a lot of different things but that beats them all!

Richard, you don’t go to the right places…..

All the crews boats ran to perfection. But.

a man came down to the pond with an old…cabin cruiser/huntsman or something which used to have a glo-plug engine in. He also had a home made boat, large, a bit clumsy.

Disappointingly he had purchased a motor battery combo from a localism model shop..2x 12v 5Ahr SLA and some v large powerful brushed motor.. a 700 of some sort?

He said on first test the batt lasted 15 mins (???) or so…. no wonder… and both boats conked out with coupling fail, the home made one was rescued by Richard in his long rubber boots and the motor was emitting smoke !!! Huntress (or woteva) had the prop off as well as there there was no locknut although he used loctite but this is no substitute.

The man is not to blame, he has been given duff gen by the shop, and sold the wrong stuff. If only he has popped to the pond first!

In the old days (1970's) we had a local model shop that used to sell "fun fighter" aircraft to new modellers many of whom wanted a Spitfire, Messershmitt etc. The trouble was that whilst they flew well they were far from a beginners machine. That didn't worry the model shop who happily recommended our model club who would teach them to fly it. In the days before buddy boxes it was basically impossible. No matter how much we complained they kept turning up.

                                        Nothing changes.

I think it was ignorance, the man took the home made hull in and the shop person looked at it and thought…hhmmmm…big batteries as v roomy boat, needs a big brushed motor so as not to confuse the issue with KV and so on. Didnt see what size prop, probably much too large (and if memory serves they only do a limited range of 2 blade X props).

When I twiddled the Waverider (or whatever , made by the chaps dad or grandad years ago) drive train it was tight, despite there being no nut at the prop end to tighten things up. The coupling looked to be a metal basll-and-socket type …left over from the glo motor??

Unfortunately there are not the model shops to go to nowadays, the one (I think) in question is a planes/trains/cars type. There are no boaty shops anywhere near us.

Hopefully he will come back and we can test the motor current draw with my wattmeter, check drive train freeness and also see what size prop he has. Unfortunately the second boat had a 5mm shaft….OR it might well have been imperial. I usually have several props in the tool box but not at 5mm/2BA

Exactly what I said to the man. If everything had gone to plan he would have learned zilch…OTHER than the combination he had on those particular vessels worked.

Richard has a large block of foam, unfeasably large really, and he is not afraid to use it! He is being tight-lipped over the intended use of the foam….

I on the other hand am fiddling with more 4mm ply, and hopefully filler today.

I also fancy building of those round Russian battleships, the Novrosgrodavich (or woteva) as I saw a picture the other day and was reminded that it was sort of on the list. Building the hull would be a doddle as would be arranging propulsion and control.

Building it would probably be easier than controlling it. I have seen a model on the pond and directionally stable it was not! A full length keel would seem a very good idea to give it some idea of which direction to go. thumbs up
