      Hi All,

Revolutionary idea how about giving the bow a little push out from the bank ?? It's only the size of a small kayak, too easy ??

      Regards Ray

Hi Eddie, I use 1.6mm balsa approx 7mm wide lengths superglued on, laid in 11inch lengths (where possible) and a sharp knife scored across the plank at various intervals to simulate plank ends. Then a sharp pencil to poke simulated nails, the whole deck then comes alive with a wash of light oak wood dye which collects in the nail holes and plank ends. Lastly a good coat of Matt varnish to seal it all up.

I use this method for my hull planking from the waterline up and have had no issues with it getting wet , again a good dose fo varnish will seal it. It’s all smoke and mirrors really!

The Brigantine is just over 3ft long ( minus the bowsprit)

Hi.Richard, you make it sound so easy, but it is very effective. My schooner is 58” long 13” beam but no bowsprit.

            Thanks for the info.

            Regards.

            Eddie.

Eddie, try a test piece first as the wood dyes tend to be a lighter shade when dry. All the dyes I have are Ronseal ones, the deck on the Brigantine is light oak and the winch was dyed with dark Jacobean oak. The Dying Gull hull was dyed in a medium dark oak which is a nice shade between the two.

When you buy the balsa look for a nice grain in it because when it’s dyed it really makes it pop, giving all my secrets away today!😂

Your schooner is a good size, should look the part especially on the water. Had a measure and the Brigantine is 3’ 6” minus the bowsprit, didn’t look that big in the garage?

Arr…these things always look bigger indoors..

VERY productive socially distanced meeting under gazebo in the garden meeting with Trevor today.

Took along Mintanic to show, and discussions soon veered off course, as they are wont to do and a concept was discussed that I shall be pursuing.

Trevor's lost his marbles by the way, or at least, his marbles are off course.

I’m not sure what I was thinking when I got the plans, and I still don’t, too big for a bikelaugh.

Thanks for all the extra information Richard, I was going to use lime strip, but I will look at your way of doing the job, I have used the Ronseal stains before and I like the colour range.

                    Regards to both.

Mintanic has fallen at the last hurdle! Just like my big Titanic, I left the make-or-break portholes to last and the two rows attempted have not gone well. Uneven and the black is uneven in colour (marker pen) and there is unacceptable bleeding. This was very slight on the Titanic and easily corrected, but not this time.

I will have to sand and repaint the centre white section to get rid of the black bits now, and I have ordered some sticky black dots but at 6mm they are a bit bigger than I would have liked.

Not sure there’s another way really besides drilling the holes out? (Which I am not doing)

Gear all connected up and tested, motor..can’t feel any vibration. May dunk it in the homepondlater to see how much ballast I am going to need.

The Terrapin is bag friendly and hasn’t been out for a while (like most of the others!).

All this Mintanic building has made me come over all….liner-y. and an RMS Queen Mary will be on the drawing boards (yes I have hacked some wood about already) wait and see!

Weather forecast is dry as far as I can see for tomorrow. Will remember to bring my flask and pack of Chocolate covered Hobnobs. Terrapin tested to be functional. Batts charged.

Have put together a very small toolkit in a plastic divider box for emergencies.

Hi. Ashley, not sure how long ago you visited, but all the old Charles Wicksteed playground equipment has gone, replaced with more modern rides, but the parkland feel is still there and all for around £40.00 for an annual car pass, that may have changed when I get home. We have been out to look at the two boating lakes/ponds around herep they are still covered in blanket weed. It’s cloudy with a few spots of rain so I hope you were able to get a test sail in.

                                                      Long time ago Eddie!

yesterday no testing due to rain, so had a socially distanced meeting with Trevor.

Showed him the Mintanic and we discussed a few ideas for super-detailing it (!).

But, the main event was Trevor retrieving some drawings which he has had for years and brainstorming the ‘cat’.

This has on the face of it a very attractive centre section,, which does not actually exist and is misleading….HOWEVER… a way was seen to realise this shape by modifying the design a bit, and we became quite enthusiastic about the possibilities, or at least, Trevor is as he will be building it!

Nerve was also got up to float Buzz. He was a bit unstable, but a quick ply and glue-gun keel I think has solved that.
