As many people in the Sussex area will know, the Squires tool supplies shop in Bognor Regis closed a while back although the company itself continued as a somewhat reduced mail order business. On idly browsing the web last night I took it into my head for no good reason to do a search on Squires which indicated that the shop was again open. As Mrs B and I were due to go down to Littlehampton for lunch today, we went on to Bognor afterwards and found that Squires was indeed open with almost all the usual goodies and clearly more to come as they were busy setting up further display space. As Mrs B had just spent quite a lot on the way down in a garden centre outside Worthing she had no objection to me having a splurge in Squires which included a nice pot of solder paint for £10.99 plus various glues, spare knife blades etc. before I was forcibly dragged away!

I don't know how long the shop has been open but I don't think very long as the lady on the till seemed to be very pleased with my custom and hoped we would call again, my attempts to suggest tomorrow at 9am have been rebuffed by Mrs B.

I commend your bravery, however your suseptibility to hospital food does not do you justice.

There are occasions where the meaning and/or relevance of a particular posting on this forum is unclear or even obscure, but you seem to have transcended reality with your last contribution. Are you going to leave us forever wondering what the **** you were on about?

Please forgive Colin and I but we are both in our dotage and prone to lapses of comprehension. It kind-of makes some sort of sense now, but it took a lot of effort to get there.

Colin. I have been to Squires oddly enough and indeed saw it was closed the last time, so this is good news.

Fantastic shop full of stuff. I am not sure that I ever went in there without buying something !

Something? I invariably buy lots of things – and then find I've already got some of them when I get back home.

Male equivalent of buying handbags perhaps?

Handbags these days are serious three-figures plus. My daft grand-daughter carries her Burberry handbag around inside a Burberry plastic carrier in case it rains!
Ref Squires, you are spoiled down there. I have an almost permanent shopping list which includes scalpel blades, cutting mats, fine drills and Tamiya masking tape. One trip to Squires would see me stocked up for years. I guess I could use mail-order but it's just not the same thing as having a good old browse, is it?

Yes. the big plus about Squires is that they concentrate on craft tools, spares and materials so you won't find space taken up with big kit boxes, power tools etc. About the most expensive thing they stock are airbrushes. For any boat modeller, indeed any modeller, it's just a big sweetie shop!

If you want handbags then Garda on Lake Garda is the place to go. The whole village is one big handbag emporium at very reasonable prices. I was obliged to visit twice during our stay there and was almost tempted to buy one myself…

And why, pray, would I want a handbag? I can just imagine swanning into 'The Organ Grinder' on a Friday afternoon; plonking my Versace bag onto the bar-top and asking Angus for a Campari and soda.

Other drinking dens are available. It's a pity there's only one Squires, though. One day……..

Looks like a nice hostelry Dave, they've even got your picture over the piano.

Handbags would be very useful in Squires, all those little pockets to put things in (after you've paid for them them of course!). Then when you get home you can have hours of fun exploring all those compartments to see what you have bought.
