Bought a Spektrum "SR301 3 Channel DSM Sport Surface Receiver – Coated" to use with my Dx5E Tx in the Schnellboot S100 and it won't bind to the Tx. Have checked all the specifications and everything seems to be correct. I even thought it might be a conflict with the rest of the electronics in the boat but having tried the Rx out of my Yorkshireman (Spektrum AR600 DsmX 6-Channel Sport Receiver) and it works fine. Any ideas what might be not occurring?

          Hi Paul,

I have had similar problems with a DX 5E transmitter and the marine 2 channel receivers. I never really found what the problem was but the advice from Spektrum was to make sure that the transmitter and receiver are not too close together when you are binding. I tried them again around 5 m apart and it worked. I have also found that replacing the batteries in the transmitter seemed to help, even though the transmitter indicator was still showing the last green light when it failed to bind.

A final point on binding is to make sure that your transmitter is set up with the sticks and trims set to the position you want the failsafe in the receiver to use, i.e. if you bind with the throttle channel at max the receiver will 'failsafe' to that condition if it loses the signal – probably not what you would want.

          Regards

          Gareth

The clue is in DSM and DSMx (also DSM2) – these two modulation systems are not quite the same, the latter being the more recent generation. In theory, they should generally be backwards compatible, but not always, depending on the Tx.

The Dx5e is compatible with the Spektrum AR600 DsmX 6-Channel Sport Receiver as they have the same modulation, whereas the 'SR301 3 Channel DSM Sport Surface Receiver – Coated' has a different modulation from the Dx5e Tx.

In other words it is probably looking for a slightly different type of signal from the Tx.

There is quite a bit on the www about this.

Thanks Paul (and The Long Build cheeky), I had a suspicion about the differences between DSM and DSMX but having looked on the web and as you say (In theory they are backwards and forwards compatible) but theory and real life are always a bit apart.

Well, tried Gareths idea of distancing the Tx from the Rx and fitting new batteries but to no avail. Thought about the suggestion from The Long Build but it seemed a shame to destroy something that will work with the right Tx so if anybody wants a Spektrum "SR301 3 Channel DSM Sport Surface Receiver – Coated" for DSMx use send me a PM with an offer. I paid just over £ 20 for it.

                  Paul
