Spotted a rare one on the taunton end of the Taunton bridgewater canal to day very effective it was too

Like a combine harvester on floats? I could see plenty of potential for a working model here!!!  that would confound them at the pond side.

There is one just like it on the Cheshire Bridgewater Canal.

Is it a weed cutter or a rake? Does it combine both functions? Once cut the weed needs to be removed as there will be little advantage other wise.

Tiveton canal suffers from fine sheets of weed floating below the surface.

basically the cutter is like a giant U shaped hedge trimmer and It looks to me like once cut the canal is dredged by a conveyor dredger that is usually moored about 2 mile downstream from where I photographed this. Funny you should liken it to a combine Ash as my1st thought was “Blimey its a water tractor” I think it’s the paddles that give it that appearance
