while this one is American and expensive (by the time you've paid for shipping and VAT) **LINK**

There are also a few cheaper ones based on fog machines and one or two smaller oil-burning ones without boost fans (e.g. Seuthe), but the two mentioned above seem to have universal approval. I think there's a similar type made and sold in Australia but I don't have the details.

This little paddle steamer has a novel smoke effect system. I haven't tested it yet, but these are the instructions I received from the models previous owner and I'm looking forward to giving it a try in the spring.

It can't really be called a true smoke generator but more of a smoke effect or smoke producing system. The base of the funnel is fitted with a metal gauze and the funnel is lined with rolled sheet metal. Incense sticks cut in half are lit with a match and lowered into the funnel. The effect can be very effective and will attract some club members and send others running, depending upon the type (and smell) of incense stick used.

Very cost effective, but as previous not a true smoke generator.

I'd be interested to know how your simple smoke generator works Tony. It seems nice and easy to achieve and takes uo no room in the boat. Presumably you need a flow of air up the funnel.

Hi, I’ve currently got a 1/72 H Class destroyer. I use incense cones in a hest resistant tray and surrounding area. The funnels are tin plate which helps, having said that very little heat is generated but lots of nice smelling smoke !!! Burn time is around 30 minutes depending on the quality of cone used. It works a treat and is a very cheap method of smoke/ steam effect for a boat. A little spot of blue tack holds the cone in place and is very successful in keeping what is a potential fire hazard for your boat in place, even in a narrow hulled vessel like a destroyer which tends to roll a lot !! Never had a problem…. yet ! Looks great when static also.

Just thought I’d add, that no fan is required to assist the smoke as once lit it just smoulder’s. Giving off quite dense lovely smelling smoke. Would add pictures if I could find out how !!!!

Taigen tanks V2 smoke units. On Amazon $13.99 But I got 2 off a site called "Bang Good" for around £4.00 each, they come from China and seem to work well at the price. There are some working ones shown on You tube. The smoke comes out in "puffs" due to the piston action. Hope this helps.
