RE280 Motors

Hi,

Has anyone any knowledge of RE280 motors? Are they any good for scale model boats (small tug, 2 x 25mm, possibly 2 x 30mm props)?

John. These motors are great for use on plastic kit conversions or something similar, The Graupner speed 280 is a fiesty little thing. 25mm props probably maximum size.

No good for anything much larger. How small a tug were you thinking of?

Further to this, I have 2 models with speed 280 motors, first, Plastic USS new Jersey, 28 inches log, goes very well on 7.2v and a 25mm prop, and the jolly old RTr Severn, converted to r/c with two speed 280`s and 25mm props again on 7.2v.Moderately fast this one.

The tug is a semi-scale one I'm planning that will be 18" in length. I was wanting something as small as possible on account of space restrictions but now I'm thinking maybe I'll be better off with a pair of 385s?

John, Yes a pair of 385`s on a 7.2v pack would be a better bet. They will be much lower revving than the 280`s and turn a larger prop.

Props up to 40mm will be ok on this setup, and if this is not powerful enough, a 380 or 400 will fit ,direct swap. If space is an issue would a single prop be better? or is the style of boat demanding two props?
