Hi everbody I’m Mark and new to here so a big hello to you all.

I am trying to find out some information on a model I have which I believe is very rare and possibly only one of its kind.

The model in question is a fully detailed example of either the Sealink Horsa or sealink Hengist.

This model is sealed in a glass case and sits on a bed of sea created in a professional manner.

The detail of the ship is surperb the livery is down to a fine art. I’m unsure what she is made from as I have never unscrewed the case she sits in.

The only information I can find is that these models were built by Skyland models for either display in company HQ or in travel agents.

I guess the year of production would be around 1972 as this was the approx year these vessels were launched.

I have attached some pictures of the model as well as some orginal phots of the ship as you can see the detail is surperb.

This model has been sealed in this class case since built and is in A1 fine condition.

I would be really greatfull if anybody could give me further information on this model also the value although I have no intention to sell her at present. I am also interested to know if she is really only one of her kind and was she on display at Sealink HQ.

I look forward to any information anybody may have or any links to somebody who may be able to help.

Thank you all for your help,

      Mark.

I have a feeling that I may have built some of these models when I was working with my father at Precision Model Engineers many, many years ago. From what I remeber I think I made about 20 or so (maybe more).

I have the exact same model. From the mid 80's when I worked at one of the London British Rail Travel Centres. Those were the days. laugh

It was in the display window and removed when BR sold Sealink. My supervisor took the twin funnel and I was lucky enough to get the single funnel.

Would be interested in selling for the right price but as I've had it for over 30 years, am equally happy to keep it for a few more years. wink

A quick google search brings up this 1/24th model of Concorde, built in 1975 by Skyland models of Slough, sold for £10,000 back in 2014.

Appears they made hovercraft as well:-

shut down in the 80's by the sound of it.

It's worth what somebody is willing to pay for it I'm afraid. Could be almost anything really. The model doesn't actually have a lot of detail and is a typical travel agent shop window type. Unless a model is especially good and with an interesting provenance, prices for model boats are generally disappointing these days.

Somebody who has an association with the ship might give a reasonable price. It may be worth contacting Charles Miller Auctions with a photo to see if it is worth selling (fees are high!).

If you compare the model with the photograph of the ship, it does not appear to be very detailed, especially on fore and aft decks – Bob
