Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me?
I am working with a group from the High Wycombe Model Rail Society, we are building an O gauge layout ( approx 1: 45) of a lake terminal in USA /Canada.
The hub of the layout is the car float, this is what we would call a barge, which takes, say, seven railway box cars plus a loco. It is then towed by a smallish tug to the other dock. I have been searching extensively and cannot find any details of such barges. I plan to scratch build both the tug and barge, they may be water line models or, if we are feeling brave, practical units, the only limit is the use of water at indoor exhibitions. I suppose we could try both as the life of a track is indefinite and always being modified.

Any help/suggestions/plans would be very useful

        Thank you
