        Hi Andy,

        Try ACTion Electronics – 19, Carisbrooke Dr., Nottingham NG3-5DS Tel:0115 9607951

        or their web site http://www.action-electronics.co.uk

They do a motor/gearbox set (M7G) for radars with ratios of 9:1 / 27:1  and runs from a single 1.2 NiCad

They also do a motor components set, which allows the motor to run from a standard 6v or 12v main drive battery.

The motor hides under the wheelhouse and drive is via brass rod/plastic tube (you provide) through the house to the radar. When you paint the tube to the internal colours it is almost invisible.

        Cheers – Kenny

ps – Don’t know where your based, but they also attend the boat shows.  I purchased mine at the Ellesmere show last year.

            Hi Andy,

I don’t know if you are into salvageing bits from old equipment, but there are some ways to get what you want for free, or nearly so.

I striped out an old cine camera last weekend, it had no value in todays world, but gave me some useful bits and pieces. The motor and gears that had worked the zoom lens is a beautifully made item that will be just right for the radar on my next model. I’m a Yorkshireman with a Scots mum so this has a lot of appeal to me.

If this isn’t your way then I too would recomend Action, great to deal with.

               Thanks chas

Being out of work i lie to scrounge all sorts of  things and i love rugby matches as you get all sorts of variety of dowel rod about 2 1/2 to3 ft in length and the wooden stirrers u get from mac donalds are ideal decking planks.I ve got all sorts of motors that i got from an old video recorder so i may try one of them .

              thanks andy from cardiff

I use the motor and gearbox from a micro servo running on 1.5V – any make of servo will do, all you need is the mechanical bits, so if you have any that do not work properly, check them out! Alternatively, they can be picked up quite cheaply on the internet.

As usual i recomend a look in http://www.hobby.uk.com catalogue, they do a sub miniatue 198;1 epycyclic motor unit thingy, should be ok for radar. Ashley
