Planet T5 reversing switch problem

I have just installed a Planet T5 r/c system with RM6 receivers in my Slo-mo-shun and Bluebird K7 hydroplanes. I need to reverse the rudder direction on K7 but the transmitter reversing switch has no effect. The servo is a Hextronic HXT900 with a JR type connector. On Slo-mo, the rudder direction is OK but again the reversing switch has no effect. The servo in this case is an Acoms standard servo. The connectors to the RM6 receivers cannot be reversed because the signal pin is at the top, positive in in the middle and negative at the bottom. Is this a compatability issue or am I doing something wrong? Please help!

Whatever you do, DON’T reverse any connections to the servo and/or speed controller. There’s a whole bunch of electronics in there which would be fried instantly.

Thanks for the warning. The Instruction Manual makes it very clear that the plugs to the receiver must not be reversed. If I removed the JR/Futaba plug from the servo and reversed the positive and negative connections leaving the signal connection in its current position, would that work? I don’t know how easy it is to fit a JR connector without special tools. Any ideas on why the Planet T5 reversing switches don’t work?

No – you must  NOT under any circumstances reverse the +ve and -ve terminals in the plugs to effect servo reverse. It just doesn’t work that way. You WILL kill the electronics inside. If you still don’t believe me then try it……but don’t say you weren’t given due warning.

 

Just been playing with a new Planet 5 set for the first time. The reverse switches do work but you need to turn off the system first; then move the reverse switch, then reboot – and all will be fine.

I have just purchased a Planet 5 transmitter/receiver for my small Billings tug (St Canute). I have installed the system and would confirm what David says.

 

System functions OK with no glitches noted as yet but of course this is only on the bench. One function I was concerned about was fail safe. With this basic system there are no programmable features but actually the system works as I want – if the transmitter is turned off the receiver outputs freeze for 2 or 3 seconds then the outputs return to neutral. Steering servo to mid position, ESC output to zero. One feature I miss from my Futaba 2.4Ghz system is that I cannot scale the output from the receiver with respect to transmitter lever throw. This could be awkward as the battery/motor combination I have selected have too much output power so it would have been nice to reduce the receiver output for the throttle signal. I suppose I could just be a little lighter on the throttle commands

Just read the “handbook” on the Planet T5 and it refers to being able to programme the failsafe on the throttle by setting the throttle leaver to the “idle” position before switching the transmitter on. For boat control however the fail safe works as required with no programming required.
