I built the model of the “Pateke” back in 1961 from plans by Vic Smeed, a well known name in the model world of that time. The build is of the well known bread and butter style, this way of building is to my mind an easy way to tackle what looks like a difficult job. However getting curves right still needs a lot of attention and then of course it has to be hollowed out, uses a lot of timber. The deck and super structure is 1/8th and 1/16th ply, most of the fitting were bought at a model shop. I read an article on here that in those days buying fittings nearly always exceeded the price of the rest of the materials used, Thinking about it this is still happening,

When planning a new project it”s a good idea to decide whether to be a kit or not a kit. Being not a kit brings out the craftsmanship in everybody.

        Happy building guys.
