                  Andy

                  Cry God for Harry, England, and Saint George!

                  The most famous speech from Henry V it still stiffens the sinews even though I've heard it many times.

                  But Andy can you tell me what the breach refers to and what historical event is taking place.

                  Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
                  Or close the wall up with our English dead.
                  In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
                  As modest stillness and humility:
                  But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
                  Then imitate the action of the tiger;

                  Paul

                    Ah now yiou have asked paul , i have always belived it was from Agincourt but not sure . I do know that the famous 2 finger salute was intended as an insult to the french archers and also it was the Welsh bowmen that won the day . I certainly would not want to be on the reciving end of that as they could put , i think , 3 or 4 arrowsin the air per minute so that would be abot a 1000 arrows screaming down at you , SOD THAT FOR A GAME OF SOLDIERS !!!!! and even if you got wounded you could die of blood poisoning as the archers went to toilet where they stood , yuk !!!!!

                      Hi Andy

                      The breach refers to the city walls of Harfleur (battle of Agincourt)

                      The two fingered salute at Agincourt being linked to fingers being cut off is something of a myth and there are a lot of reasons to doubt its veracity. According to anthropologists, hostile gestures involving jerking movements of parts of the hand or forearm are found in many, if not most, cultures.

                      There's no record of captured bowmen being mutilated at Agincourt, or elsewhere; if the practice had been widespread enough to launch the V-sign, such records would surely exist, from a time when all

                      aspects of warfare were closely scrutinised and chronicled.

                      Paul

                          Its a shame as the legend makes a really good story.

                            Just like an honest polotician , a good story . But lets not go there !!!!!!!!!!

                            Any way started back on my frigate and having a fresh look at it i have found a few areas where i have gone wrong and am sorting them out , Odd isnt it that you put something down for a while and when you come back to it you find a whole host of little things you never seen before !!!

                              Now that has to be the ultimate example of a contradiction in terms
