Bob”s photo of the Old Model Yacht Pond in Erias Park, Colwyn Bay.
        Thanks for the memory Bob.
Your photo takes me back to my younger days when we always spent our summer holiday in the resort. It was here I originally got into model boating, sailing a cabin cruiser built by my Dad and eventually running my first R/C boat..
I first encountered a model of the K.K. RAF Crash Tender on this pond, a model of which I am currently constructing from a set of original plans.

Great picture !    Nice pool to do non-controlled sailing in as well.

There`s another question for you all in that trot down memory lane. How many boaters sail nowadays WITHOUT remote control??

My only non remote control boating since i was a small boy has been my rubber band boats

            Good question Ashley!
But not many sailing venues used by model boaters have access to all sides these days and this was a feature of this old pond.

As a matter of fact, Ashley………………My eccentric twin brother………..Is building two papier machie yachts, moulded from a biggish classic Star yacht…..purchased at a junk stall at the  Woodvale Show!

He`s made a few of these free sailers now…………..and he`s off to Colwyn Bay with them, very soon now…………………Now that there are a few fans out there…………..I`ll post a few pix………….shortly

              Bob……………..Alway`s here!

Some of my old modelling books………

                  I like the to see the old famous names like……Vic Smeed…….Col Bowden……Howard Boys……..Rupert Moore ( especially )…….Albert E Hatful…….Eddie Kiel……William Daniels…….Henry J Greenly……..Henry J Towner…..Laurie Bagley………LBSC…….etc

                  Gone but not forgotten

They bring back very pleasant memories……..when model making was exciting?

                  Bob……Feeling his age now!

In those far off days, model yachts was a very serious business! Just look at the old postcards, every seaside town had it`s model boating lake……eg……The Round Pond in London……….Platt Fields in Manchester………Llandudno`s, West Shore……..New Brighton…etc

I like the ponds, with access all round……..you can alway`s get your boat back……in time!

Bob……………Harkin` back to the old days!

Bob. Thats the secret of non r/c boating…access all round.

Our pond has one small nesting log and a very small group of three poles close together (used to be used to moor up the boating pool canoes).

They must possess significant mass, as all out of control or broken down vessels gravitate to them. Without fail. Thet never just drift to the side v(from experience)

Happens in full size yachting too. A friend once told me that all the buoys in the Solent have huge great magnets in them. Having just missed one by the skin of my teeth at night once I’m inclined to believe him!
