Maybe a bit ambitious?

Hi all
I was given this hull by our lads scout leader a few years ago and after asking elsewhere was told it might be a Hammersmith Wavemaster. I wont be rushing anything, I have a RC Tiger Moth scratch build and my motorcycle projects underway too but I'd love to get a boat built and on the water so I always have something to do.
I've built 1:1 iron hull narrow boats but wooden RC boats are a bit different.

I'm not sure whether to go for the 50's style as intended or a more modern style

Hi M,

Assuming the Wavemaster was a kit, I don't think your hull shows any signs of being built from the usual plywood bulkhead s etc in a kit, but the timbers at the bow make it look scratch built, it would make a good basis for a Norfolk Broads cruiser?

Thanks for your reply Ray. Identifying it is only of partial interest but trying to find plans that it might have been built from has been a trial. How to go about finishing it would have been revealed. like I say, I'm new to model boats. Should I fit any strakers? Flat deck or cambered? Any stringers to support the deck? Plans would have been good but I'm no stranger to overcoming such obstacles.
I'll take a look at Broads cruisers.

Hi Mike,

This would be a typical broads cruiser, this one is freelance, but based on the boats we used to hire in the 1970's the plan is available from Sarik, who advertise on this website, Margoletta is 24" long but could be scaled up to suit your hull.

Seems a common hull shape for river and coastal cruisers. I planned to have a varnished wood deck but need to learn howto glass up the hull while keeping a nice separation between the gunnels and the deck. Never used GRP before so another string being added to my bow

Do a search for Aerokits. Your hull looks to be very much along the lines of some of their models, which could be used for a little guidance and inspiration for your own build.

Thanks Richard. I see what you mean, it's like a sweet shop. Time to sharpen the pencils and see if I can design something to suit.

Is it good practice to separate the various sections: Drive – fuel/power source – electronics. Or is open plan okay?

Progress. Roughly assembled to see how it sits. I found an instruction manual on a facebook page with close to accurate outlines of components for the kit. I like the shape of the cabin and the hull is similar but narrower, so some modification needed. Still lots of sanding to do, shaping windows.

That looks like a nice balanced design plus you have lots of choice for colour schemes if you look around online.

Thanks Colin. The cabin is loosely based on a Chris Craft. I'm trying to find pictures or plans for scratch built hulls that are similar to this so I can get a clue which way to go. Do I make solid bulkheads or make stringers to support the deck? The sides are pinned in place so I think I'm going to fibreglass it. Being my first build I don't want to make a mess of planking it
