I came across this fascinating graphical reconstruction of the loss of Titanic's sister ship Britannic while serving as a hospital ship to Gallipoli in WW1. The video is in real time and demonstrates how long the ship took to sink and the efforts made to save her. An incredible amount of detail but you have to imagine the passengers and crew. The depiction of events seems to be pretty accurate too.

If you have time (and don't most of us just now?) it is well worth a look.

          Thanks Bish

Interesting video, but the script on the screen is a pai

Can it be switched off or what?

What a cruel world in war time?

The text doesn't obscure the picture though, just being across the bottom. Very impressive film.

Awful times, and I often wonder why the general obsession with building model warships?

There are other similar video animations, especially for the Titanic (surprise) and Lusitania but some of them are well researched and quite informative.

Yes, Bob, warship models are a perrennial favourite and always have been. In my case I only build merchant ship models but on the other hand I am a keen student of Naval history and warship design with a particular interest in WW1 and have many books on the subject. I suppose it takes all sorts.

Here is another one, the sinking of the Windsor Castle. Sadly, although it looks good, it is complete fiction. The Windsor Castle shown in the simulation did not sink after catastrophic hull failure in a storm, she was torpedoed in the Mediterranean during World War II, and sank with the loss of 1 life!

Here is the video, for waht it's worth:

Yes, I don't know why people invent these things really.

The ship itself was accurate enough, and easily recognisable, but the siking of the Windsor Castle is well documented, and even photographed as she went dwon stern first in perfectly calm seas –

there was a nurse in this ship that was also a stewardess in the titanic in 1912. she survived both sinking. she was called violet jessop. what a lucky lady.
