I am currently building a model houseboat with a number of separate rooms/cabins. For the interior lighting, I would like to simulate the lights being turned on/off in the various rooms cabins at different times/durations, say up to 5 LEDs. Is there a timing module which would allow mw to do this? Operating voltage: 6V

I know only of timer modules which will operate one circuit at a time. If you need five separate circuits then you'd need five of these, or find someone who can program PIC chips and design a switching circuit for you.
Just a thought – have you browsed some of the Doll's House websites? It sounds like the sort of thing they might do.

I had previously looked at dolls house suppliers and all I found was one that could supply a remote control systems rather in the same manner as a TV remote control. Also all of the dolls house related items appear to be 12V.

The voltage difference is the least of your problems and could be solved very easily, but until you find a controller then it's rather academic.

I found this. It doesn't say how long the LEDs are lit but it is "adjustable". You might pursue it with the supplier. **LINK**

Many thanks for the info. I will email the supplier over the weekend and let you know the outcome. I did find a supplier of dolls house and model railway related items. For model railways use they had a 24 way distribution panel for lighting buildings used within a layout for about £35 complete with 24 white LEDs.

                    David and Dave,

I meant to post yesterday but am busy with a two day festival with our model boats for AvaGo so time was short. Still, if you are still searching then DM is correct, a programmable chip board for example Arduino, Adfruit, Pollulu etc will certainly do the job.

My experience is with the Arduino (I used one to activate and operate 13 navigation buoys with their correct flashing light sequences so that one, two and even all can be on together) and this can certainly be programmed to do as you want.

It is very simple to write the instruction on a PC. Most people think computers, code, RUN.

All your system would require is three random choices made by the code, how many lights, on what circuit for how long. The power supply required is 5.5V and the maximum power out for LED etc is 100mA.

Send me a PM if interested.

I also built a timer system for control units of boats, that was based on the 555 chips. Their use would be a bit more complicated as you would require to build a circuit as well, so a programmable chip would be better.

Just to close this one off. Kim of Kimosubby Shipyards kindly produced a timing device to suit my exact needs i.e. number of lights (LEDs) duration ON/OFF times etc. I received the unit this week but the model is only in the early stages of manufacture and I am therefore unable to test at the current time. A note for Dave Milbourn – as promised a feedback on the LINK that you provided. I did contact the supplier but nil response. Ditto the same result from two possible suppliers that I found on eBay. Anyway thank you gentlemen for your help….much appreciated
