Colin ,suggested that I put my question on this form to maybe get help. My question is , does any one know where I can get plans and information on"Lifeboat Statioons"? I want to build one to go with the boat I plan to build in the near future. I will have to order one from one of the suppliers listed in Model Boats and have it sent to me across the pond to USA. A little background on me, my wife got us into radio control hobby 42 years ago and we are sill in the hobby. We have been in, owned and tryed I beleive every thing but jets, she says they cost to much and fly to fast for us old seniors to keep up with, Thanks for any and all help anyone can give. Paul

Hi Paul There are a number of different stations throughout England . Your choise of Lifeboat Class will dictate what you can build . Some are but sheds with trailer mounted lifeboats ,eg Mersey class. Some are harbour boats ,other older types are slipway boats Galway Lifeboat is stationed in Galway bay off the ARRAN Islands with I believe a fast Rib . If you let the forum know what Class lifeboat you intend to build I,m sure ou will get the advice you need Michaelwink

Thanks Mike, I think I will start with the"Scout" one of the smaller ones., then move onto one of the bigger ones. I can get this one here at the hobby shop near my house here in the states and then look at ordering one of the bigger scales from one of the supplers in the UK. Paul

              Paul

As the Scout was based at Hartlepool I would suggest contacting Mike Craddy or Garry Waugh at the station to see if they could help.

                Paul Morris,

I know that you were in contact with a "Neil of Fleetwood", and he suggests the following

A question was recently put onto Model Boats by a gentleman calling himself Paul Morris 3 with regards to where to obtain plans to build a Lifeboat Station building.

However in answer to Paul Morris 3…. many of the old stations were built many years ago, and all station builds were contracted out to builders with specific building techniques ( such as those needing drilling and piling for slipways.

I doubt that the stations themselves would keep any records of builders or plans for their stations, and only the RNLI headquarters at Poole would do so….even if the builders were still around.

So, I would start there, but if they cannot find plans to your station of Choice, then the only ones I could think of other than the RNLI is Land Registry UK, and their site is here, and Headquarters for England is Lytham St Annes.

They do hold all sorts of plans and records for buildings registered throughout the UK…….they might have some for relevant lifeboat stations.

The link above will put you back in touch with Neil.

Hi Luke , Models by Design produces a 35-5 inch three piece model of the Oakley lifeboat .

It offers windows etc so a call (they advertise in the Mag) to them will set you on the road . As for the RNLI I found their plans superb but alas I have recently heard that all future plans will cost 20 pounds as they were losing money on currently on them .That was in their in house mag. Hope that's of some help. Michaelwink
