Paul Freshney, Editor of Model Boats has just been informed of the death of Keith Julier who passed away at the end of May.

Regular readers will remember Keith's reviews of period ship kits and also the numerous articles he contributed on scratchbuilding this type of model. He was also author of books on building techniques and constructing kits. In recent years his health precluded continuing with his regular reviews and articles which will be very much missed by those building period ship models whether in scratch built or kit form.

I wondered why Keith was no longer having articles featured in the magazine. His build of HMS Mars featured in the 2007 Model Boats Winter Special must be one of the best static build items ever published.

So sorry to hear of this.

Keith had been quite ill for the last three years or so and in fact had to abort his last but unpublished review project because his hands were no longer steady.

Readers of MB may not know, but in fact he became very involved in period ships when his wife became ill (deceased some time ago) and he had to look after her, so period ship model making became a very useful occupation for him as he worked in the spare room, but equally could attend to her needs as necessary.

Keith was always a gentleman and has been mentioned on another forum, had served in the RAF.
