          Hi Martin,

That is my model of the Deans Marine Medea kit..

The original vessel is preserved at San Diego. However I would warn you that there were a great many steam yachts built to a very similar design and it can be difficult to distinguish between them. If you could post a photo of your Dad’s model we might be able to identify it. Is there a name on it anywhere? How big is the model?

I have posted a picture on the following link.

I do not think it was built from a kit, my father used to buy the plans and build from scratch.
Any further information would be appreciated. The model is 1260mm by 150mm beam.
            Kind regards

Martin, that looks very nice. I would guess the original dates back to the turn of the 20th Centrury if not a decade or so before. It could be almost anything though as there were a great many yachts built to similar designs. The blue hull might be a clue.

There are books on the luxuru yachts which might help such as this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Golden-Century-Classic-Yachts-1830-1930/dp/0393049493

I’m surprised there is no name anywhere on the model or case, I assume you have loked underneath. Is there no information among your late Farther’s effects – few modellers throw plans away?

We had the case made, and we have found lots of books and plans in my fathers effects but none about this boat, the local model boat club do not seem to be able to help, they have now got all the books and plans as we donated them to the club which my father was the President off.

I will purchase the book it looks interesting.

I was told by one of the members that it was Dutch built in 1898, I would like to put a brass plaque on the case stating Boat Type, date original one was built etc.

                Kind regards
