Hi, can anyone help me identify this 12V decaperm motor (photos here **LINK**). It is from an R/C seawater sampling vessel I am taking to the arctic in July (photo here: **LINK**). The motor's plastic gearbox casing was broken during shipping, we've made a slightly hopeful repair (the aluminium strips in the photo) and I'm looking for replacements. Unfortunately I can't find a part number on it anywhere, all I can see is some writing on top that says "Max 4A" (I think, picture of text in the link above).

        Can anyone identify it?

Does anyone know where I could buy a replacement or happen to have one that they don't want anymore (would be willing to pay)?

I'd even be interested in a broken one with intact plastic housing as we could replace ours with it…

        Any suggestions welcome!

        Cheers,

        Ted

If its "just" the gearbox housing that's damaged, a replacement gearbox offering the same ratio might be all that is required. Your existing gears might be transferrable.

          A selection here – **LINK**

A phone call there might help.

            Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the suggestion. There is a better picture of the damage here. I'd have to make a new housing for the motor if I bought a new gearbox, which might be quite dificult. I'm also not sure I have space in the boat as it is. I'll have to give them a call

            Thanks again.

            Ted

With proper cleaning and the right glue, the broken part of the end plate should refix in place. Since the cover for the gears relies on this part to hold in place, to get the strength back you might need to resort to a plate each side, glued and screwed, or a metal strip wrapped round as an external clamp. Sort of a meccano band-aid.

Ted, Impressive vessel. Graupner have gone bust it appears, so grabbing a new Decaperm or two NOW if it will fit and you can find a pair might be wise.

Obviously your vessel is not a hobby sort of item, or we would simply advise fitting a more common geared unit. Purchasing a direct replacement is really what you need considering the considerable sums of money being invested in an operation such as yours. Using something else to replace this unit (both sides would need doing assuming it is a cat??) might mean a redesign of the speed control arrangements and what have you. The cost of two matching NEW decaperms would not be great considering the risk of failure in the cold place and the ensuing loss of data and research time.

I would not risk a repair given this. I would under any other circumstance (fishing bait boat) say "glue it back up and strengthen with a good Marine Epoxy two-part filler"

                  Ashley
