Hello Ian, was this the same Greta as my model plan in Model Boats many years ago?

          Certainly was, Jim.

Took me six years to get it to this stage-my first model and definitely bit off more than I could chew; but I love steam yachts. As described elsewhere it was fairly decisively destroyed by a dog charging it at the waterside and is no longer.
I often mull over the idea of building her again, maybe a touch bigger.
I became very fond of small steam yachts as seen in a book by David Couling but never managed to get a drawing that I was prepared to pay for, ie NMM wanting about sixty quid back in the eighties for a set of Napsugar which was subsequently kitted by one of the firms, although it seems to have disappeared now.
I’ve been waiting all these years for you to draw a small steam yacht, say 60- 90 feet long, straight stem, counter stern, open desk – you know the kind of thing!

Sorry, bet you wish you hadn’t asked- pleasure to hear from you by the way.

          Ian

That’s very interesting. I never realised that these steam yachts were in fact almost in mass production. They must have been among the best looking vessels ever built.

                very handsome indeed.
i have a mind that one of them sank at some stage around the Clyde or western isles whilst in the care of the RN during WW2.
                can anyone confirm this, please.
                neil.
