      cost and volume

I would really be interested in options people have on a pool for sailing model boats and test floating for ballast.

The plan is to have a building near to the lake so we can draw water from this to fill the pool for a day base of use in test running models and give access for locals to sail models and show interest in the boat club.

I would be interested in other opinions as to size of pool ( blow up or solid assembly) also to a method of water pump for filling the pool and empting back to the lake.

The over all thought of this is ( elf and safety ) to show interest in allowing parents with youngsters to stand my the pool and see what is going on and allow them to sail a model and gain interest in the hobby.

With less fear of sliding into the big lake.

So any ideas on cost and methods others have used would be much appreciated.

        Best regards,

        Ian

For filling, look at what the pump can deliver with whatever raise in head you need, figure out the volume that you need in your portable, divide the pool volume by the delivery rate, and you can tell whether the day will be long enough to fill it.

The quickest way of emptying is to let gravity do the work. Remove panel/deflate, away it goes. Tell the people not to stand downstream of it, possibly play the Dam Busters March.

              Hi Ian

We use a simple system on building sites to create temporary ponds.

Imagine the open topped box inside a matchbox and then think big.

All you need are some steel pins which were usually 3ft lengths of 3/4 in reinforcing bar, and some wooden boards, (single or double height scaffold boards laid on end) and a large tarpaulin or waterproof groundsheet.

Form a large open topped box with the timber boards and support them with the steel pins.

Open the groundsheet inside the box with the edges draped over the boards and then fill the pond with water.

Cheap, robust and easy to move around.

              Paul

                Hi Bob Malcolm Paul… ,

Many thanks for the reply, the Amazon pool looks great and will research this thread, thanks.

Malcolm, I was thinking about a 12 foot square by two foot deep, so we can encourage all aspects of club boat designs and would hope this might encourage the likes of sub marine and hover craft tests and as you say it will be down to the pump delivery to fill and hopefully we can have easy empty by drainage back to lake.

As for any boat with deep keel, we would not be able to help and hope the weed in the lake does not get any worse in Summer.

Hi Paul, your idea is a good one as we could store the material on site and assemble when required.

                Thanks to all reply's

                Ian
