Fourteen of my profiles, printed at 100 feet to an inch to show the correct relative sizes to each other.

Left to right.

Top Arranmore (later Vindicatrix) – Gorsefield – Bannprince – Palermo

Wandsworth ( between Arranmore and Palermo (Green hull)

Bandama (ex Silveravon) – Jolly Christine – Clan Stuart – Kyle of Lochalsh above Clan Stuart

Potosi – Rhodesia Star and Richmond Castle

Sagamore – Hylton –

Interesting to see just how small puffers and raised quarter deck steamers were.

The smallest, Jolly Christine, between Bandama and Clan Stuart, was only 125 feet long, but puffers were even smaller, often about 90 feet long. The ones I sailed in were Rhodesia Star, Wandsworth, Sagamore, Richmond Castle and Bandama in that order. The most comfortable was the 1977 Bandama where we had the added luxury of air conditioning and bathrooms in our cabins. Rhodesia Star and Wandsworth did not even have wash basins in the cabins. But my favorites were Sagamore and Richmond Castle.

Great drawings.

i like seeing different types of boats/planes/tanks or whatever drawn side-by-side as it were to scale. You get an appreciation of the actual size of the vessels that simply knowing physically how large there were does not give.

The bulk of a (say) a Tiger tank verses a Crusader tank is horribly apparent when scale models of same are placed side by side.

The remains of the Clan Stuart engine are still visible on the beach near Simonstown – my uncle Stuart used to tell us it was his ship………..Never seen a picture of the ship before.

It is a different Clan Stuart! The one you mention was a turret ship, built much earlier, as per your link. My drawing is of the 1916 version that was sunk in a collision in 1940.

I have seen the Clan Stuart wreck off Simonstown, but she was completed in 1900 and was one of those peculiar-looking turret ships. Here more details: **LINK**
