I have just had a rethink on powering the bow thruster on my Yorkshireman build (thanks to Dave Milbourne for setting me on the straight and narrow) and I now have a somewhat redundant Action Electronics P44. It was suggested that some lights my brighten things upwink but as I never go sailing in the dark I've ditched that idea but I do like surprising passers by in the park with a nice jet of pond water so my question is this: Is the P44 up to powering a water cannon and if so what's a likely source of such a piece of kit. Graupner have them listed but obviously the new owners are not yet up to speed. Oh and I'll need a 12V pump.

The 12 volt pump is no problem, most car accessory shops sell windscreen washer pumps. There might be a problem with the passers-by not seeing the jollity of pond water.

Try Cornwall Model Boats. They are showing the Graupner 12v unit (CEM300) as in stock @ £16.99 and drawing less than 3A on 12v. I've run one of these through a Robbe fire monitor and obtained a jet of 5 metres! Obviously if you run two monitors from the same pump then you'll get less "range". **LINK**
What about running a horn from the second relay?

Well that's got the pump sorted but I'm having real trouble finding a suitable scale monitor. The nearest one so far is the Robbe at 1:25 (need 1:48). I thought I had found one which was just right, from Model Slipway and recommended for the Yorkshireman but it seems to have disappeared from their catalogue. I've emailed them so watch this space.

Be very polite to Jackie White @ Slipway and she will probably have Lawrie make you a couple – even if he doesn't want to!

I did contact Model Slipway but they had supply problems with Graupner stuff (hasn't everybody?) so discontinued them. They put me onto A Model World who might have some. we'll see.

Managed to source a couple of realy nice fire monitors from Mobile Marine Models. They are slightly larger scale than the 1:48 for the Yorkshireman but when the turret/base is cut down slightly they look just right so thats another feature sorted and I have now run out of radio channels, only got a spare relay on the P44. DM, you suggested a horn but would I need to buy a complete sound unit or can I just get the sound of a horn?

ACTion have two different horn sounds; P13 Fog Horn and P57 Twin Horn. Either would do. The only extra you would need would be a speaker (4" for the P13 and at least 3" for the P57 – both 8 Ohms impedance). If the volume isn't enough for you then feed the signal through a separate amplifier e.g. ACTion P97 or P101. Awesome, dude!

You talked me into it Dave, have ordered a P13 and 4" speaker so it's soldering iron out again and redo some of the wiring. It all started off so neat with the power distribution board keeping all the wiring in one place but as things have progressed it's all gone to a "rats nest" again with all the gold connectors so everything can be removed easily… ah well. In my naivety I wondered if I could by a speaker locally and went into a local music store and they said "yes we do have small 8ohm speakers – only £300 a pair!" so I bought one from ACTion for £6. I'm sure it will do the business.
