This morning I am getting a screen which pops up when I'm on this website, requesting me to download a Java update to continue reading the page. This is a fake; don't press the download button or all manner of mayhem will descend upon your PC!
A decent up-to-date anti-Malware program (e.g. Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Avast) should block this annoyance so there's nothing left on your PC for you to delete, but the damned thing persists! It's probably been left by some pondlife hacking into the MB website; I've alerted Colin but these things take time to filter through to the right person. If this is affecting you then just make sure your anti-virus/malware software is up to date. The best way out of the annoying screen is to hit the Back arrow.

          Hello Dave

I`ve got the same problem, but luckily, AVG has spotted it and keeps blocking/deleting it

          Such is life

Just testing, not been online today as I have been to the Society of Model Shipwrights Exhibition.

Edit, posted this without an intrusion so maybe it has been fixed. I did get exactly the same thing the other day when visiting the AOL website which I use as a secondary email address though. I deleted the site from my home page set and then rebooted the machine. It didn't reappear so I added the AOL page back and have had no further problems. Puzzling!

If anyone else is still getting the problem let me know and I will pass it on to the IT people.

Yes, I spoke too soon! Got it myself and so did the people on the Military Modelling site.

Managed to contact the Head of IT who thinks it is due to some third party adverts on the site which he has now removed. I have now been able to get back on to this site and hopefully the problem has been resolved.

If anyone has further problems then try and let me know!

There are some wicked people out there!

Has anyone had another full-screen pop-up this morning advising you to update the video player for
Firefox? This has all the appearance of the Java thing.

Not this morning. However I did get an attempt to display the screen last night. It didn't display because I had found the screen file and deleted it. I think there is still some latent setting left on the PC somewhere so I reset my browser (IE) to it's defaults last night which may possibly have been effective, we shall have to see. The screen itself is simply an adware popup which the browser gets redirected to under certain circumstances.

I did also find before that disabling the shockwave add on in the browser seemed to get rid of it but then you can't view some video clips.

I found a free download called Adblock Plus which seems to do the trick. As with all these freebies, I can't actually recommend it in case there's something lurking in there (MSE didn't find anything) and if you do download it then all risks are yours.

Hi All ,For 4 recent visits to the Model boat site I have had a prompt to update my Windows programme. It has not come in by the normal way ie by email so I continue just closing it out until I see my grandson who will check it out.

Strange that it only pops up when I an contributing to the forum. It may be ok but bewaresadMichael
