Well, after my first RC Boat build was so warmly welcomed I ended up falling lucky on a second Corvette kit, a pre-started Snowberry, which I have adapted and made into HMS Campanula..
A few differences in layout and kit options, some missing parts scratchbuilt, some 3D printed upgrades and she has smoker and lights fitted… Almost finished now, just another few bits to assemble and fit, then the crew to paint and fit, and hopefully she will be on the water next weekend at Bury Lido!
The two will look superb together on the water. You’ll have a credible convoy escort there.
I made the same kit many years ago and also built the Revel 1/72nd U-Boat to go with it. They went together well on the water as well. The U-Boat was a little trickier to motorise as there was so little room in it but it looked good and handled surprisingly well.
Brilliant Richard, I was thinking along those lines with a matching sub, but the small size of the sub is giving me time to pause… Snowberry is now complete and will be on the water tomorrow 🙂
Next is a Fleetscale 1/72 HMS Antelope Type 21, for my winter project…
K18 – HMS Campanula – Sea Trials successful today!
A lovely day at the ever-welcoming Bury Metro Model Club, and HMS Campanula was in the water for the first time.. 10 mins of tinkering with ballast saw her balanced. We then had a few good hours of sailing, with me piloting the recently completed Campanula, and hubby taking my HMCS Snowberry for a sail – nice to have 2 Corvettes on the water together!
Campanula looks absolutely superb. And, just like the real thing this kit makes into a remarkably stable sea boat that can handle adverse weather remarkably well.
You’ve certainly taken to this model boating thing! If you ever need any information about converting the Revel U-Boat let me know. I still have all the pictures and quite a bit of text for it.
Thanks Richard, hmm, I shall perhaps take you up on that once I get a little more confidence – dont want to start a sub quite yet, need more practice first!
