Thanks Richard. Yes, I had similar thoughts but as the hole is high up and so near the centre-line I’m not too concerned but you never know!

Unlike a racing yacht this model has a considerable beam, will be very buoyant and sits high in the water and with a relatively small sail area so I don’t think it will be a problem. I will only use it when there are light breezes – any hint of any gusts and it won’t be going near the water!

I used a similar solution on my Huntress build – trouble is with the Fisherman is that the hole is quite wide, due to the size of the horns and the short linkage and so would be very difficult to do in such a confined area.

I like the rudder and it’s set-up on your work boat – looks really good. I was going to use pintles on mine but was slightly worried about the rudder coming off them. But that was unfounded as the linkage will stop excessive movement.

I think you will be fine Chris.  With that wide beam you will maintain the freeboard more or less regardless of the heel angle.

I have a small hole in the transom of Spooky to take a push rod for the switch.  It is lined with a plastic tube and the plastic rod is a tight fit so I am not expecting leaks.

You are now on Page 8 so this is epic!!

          Hi All,

Yes I agree it’s going to be fine 🙂 by the time the angle of heel is achieved the cockpit would have flooded ! of course it never will , the DF keel is pretty good for a little boat, same with the Lysander 🙂

          Regards  Ray

            Hi all

The only model I have had an issue with, with regard to water coming in from the slots in the stern, was on HMS Bloodhound.  This was due to the fact that the model has a flat stern and I put the boat into full reverse – swamping the back end –  I don’t think you will have a problem with flooding due to the shape of the stern of your model.  However, what was suggested to me by one of the Club members (after my mis-hap) was to use a dab of the flexible bath sealant – just to cover the gap up but still thin enough to allow the rudder to move.   I haven’t tried that method as yet, but, I think I may have a try after an experiment to see which different sealants are the most flexible.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest chaps.

Apart from the fact I don’t think the Fisherman will reverse very fast, with its small single motor, the shape of the stern will mean that water will flow around it rather than form a big stern wave.

I have a flat stern on Faun as well John with a similar set up to yours, so will have to be careful with reversing, though this is also a slow speed craft and the hole is well above the waterline.

More work to the cockpit area and introduced some more mahogany!

Not too much more to do there now, door and the console, but I don’t think I can put off painting the hull any longer!

But I’m going to have to put anymore work off for a week or two now as I’ve got some jobs around the house to do.
