esc voltage

hi my question is if an esc is rated for say 24 volts max and a battery fully charged measures 26 volts will it damage the speed controller or is there a bit of leeway on the voltage ? .regards sammyk

If you know the manufacturer of the esc, perhaps an email directly to them to ask the question about their particular unit will give you a definitive answer?

If an ESC is rated for a specific voltage or range of voltages, it is not usually a good idea to go outside of that range – but the voltage stated is usually the nominal voltage of the battery it is intended for. If headed for the upper limit, though, it is always a good idea to ask first.

24 volts is a nominal voltage for lead acid batteries, so the ESC should be OK since the rating on the label should indicate the appropriate nominal battery is is intended for, but asking should either give an informative answer or tell you what you need to know about their customer service.

A fully charged battery will always excede the rated volage(that is if it is in good condition)i.e. a fully charged lead acid 12v will read 13.6v on the multi meter, so 2x12v batteries will read as 27.2v and the makers of E.S.C's allow for this over voltage,so you will be O.K.,happy boating,Ray.
