John, The article in the mag was the month before its appearance in the features column.. such was the demand for info (so we were told).
I have seen one other picture of a very similar model, presumably based on mine, in another magazine which covered some show or other, and a forum member has constructed one as well.
To be honest , making this sort of thing is a bit poke`n`hope, as there are no guidlines to go on. It either works, or doesnt. I was perhaps a bit lucky (although I like to think SKILLFUL) and the craft performs well enough to give the Ecranoplan impression. With more voltage it takes off and is uncontrollable…so its a fine line. Colin has seen it in action, I dont know if he thought it performed better or worse than he was expecting (based on my write-up), certainly it is FAIRLY fast…not VERY fast, but fast enough…if it went tooooo fast it would look silly, and just like a.n.other small brushless speedboat.
I was making mine to look something like the original, so was a bit constrained as to how much I could alter the dimensions and look. If you follow the link to the other article you will see that it IS possible to make one actually work and fly in "wing in ground effect" mode, but it needs a totally different design.
Why make it easy, when you can make it hard, eh?
